A true protection dog

... Do be careful not to do too much prey work. Using sleeves to train you dog in Personal Protection is not a problem (there is too much emphasis in equipment in PP these days which shows too me that not enough people know what they are doing) but he must get a wake up call every now and again just too make sure he realises that what he is doing is a serious business. Save your siut, muzzle and undercover arm work for this sort of senario, too test your dog is doing what he should in the real world.
I agree with the entire reply from Mick, particularly with the above excerpts from it. Your dog, CanjunsMom, is what many sport purists may call "too civil"... or a dog high in defense drive. However, to me, your dog has the intensity required in a true protection dog. Since PP is your goal, and not a sport ring, I believe that by following the sound advise given by some of the members, you will be able to control your dog's active aggression... which is different from the prey drive charged-up dog playing with the decoy ;) Ooooops! I hope some of the members don't take it personally

PS. Glad to see you posting, it makes staying home, sick, on a saturday almost bearable.
First, there are very few dog sport clubs in my "neck of the woods", very few. In any case, I'm not interested. Second, the standards of a true protection and guard dog are measured in real life duty, after training, when the protection dog gets to do his job as a police dog, or a military dog, or in a correctional prison, or guarding a business warehouse or factory plant, or protecting a nuclear facility, or estates and other property. It is measured in the streets, not in a sport ring. A true protection dog is more than eager and willing to engage in a fight, no matter what the threat is, where the protection dog will fight to prevail in a do or die mood, while many of the sport dogs are just fixated with the sleeve-prey-item and real stress is just too much to handle, of course! :D

P.S. While you are staying home, I am pulling guard duty, making sure you have a bearable life ;)
