rottweiler springpole??

Hi, I am new to the forums and have a 10 month old rottweiler. I was playing tug o war with him and I lifted him off the ground and he was hanging for a good 30 seconds. I know pitbulls are great at spring poles and dont know too much about rottweilers on them. This got me curious if rottweilers can hang from spring poles. I am also not sure if hes full blood because I found him in mexico however he looks full rott even though he seems fairly small for a rottweiler. So my question is does anyone know if rotts can work a spring pole?

Re: rottweiler springpole??

well if anyone is curious I built one today, only took about an hour and 30 dollars for supplies and my dog loved it. I have it low enough for him to keep his 2 hind legs on the ground and am working to getting all legs off but will go slow with him.

Re: rottweiler springpole??

At 10mos of age, his teeth are not firmly planted yet, damage could be sustained or teeth could go out of alignment.

Re: rottweiler springpole??

I am also interested in having my rotti on one too. I have a pull up bar and just threw one of his ropes over it and he was going crazy on it but he never jumps up off the ground so his back legs are always on the ground. i couldnt imagine picking him up myself. he nine months and 90lbs, but it is really good exercise. mtw, where did you find a spring that was sting enough, they say not to use trampoline spring. What all did you use for it?

Re: rottweiler springpole??

I think as long as he has his back legs on the ground it should be fine for him.

Re: rottweiler springpole??

Ya angus (my dog) is actually about a year and 1 month now that i think about it which is an estimate because I found him in Mexico on the streets but I have some pictures and I am not sure if hes full blood because he has a pitbull body. He is very short and stocky for his age and is very hyper. I actually had him on it and on his second day working it he was getting off the ground and hanging there for a good 20 seconds. Also is it possible for him to have pit bull blood and have full rottweiler coloring?

Ya funny how your dog is 9 months and 90 pounds mine is a 1 year 1 month and 70. I just went to home depot got 2 springs for 75 pounds and locked them to an eye from my sisters swing set and am using a deflated soccer ball for him to bite on. I tried carpet, old towels, and the soccer ball. Carpet usually tears and he gets a mouthful of carpet which cant be good for him and the towel tears. The soccer ball is actually really good and doesnt tear to easy.

I'd wait until well over a year, personally. In the meantime, some tugging with your dog is fine, as you can reinforce the out, and work on your OB with that toy, but when he's bearing all his weight and thrashing his bod around, as dogs do on spring poles, that's a bit much at this age I think.

Re: rottweiler springpole??

Oh thanks poohbear. Do you think it would be fine if his hind legs were supporting him or just completely take him off?

Re: rottweiler springpole??

Yes, there are pit bulls with black and rust markings, as well as many other breeds. I would start with back legs touching the ground and slowly work up to totally off the ground as muscles and jaws gain strength. Also get a good "out" on cue for control of the game. Did you use a garage door spring? I have heard of many springpoles made with these.
