Endurance Titles

I have been reading about working titles and am curious about the endurance title.

How old does a dog need to be to enter this and what does it involve. There was not much information on the site i looked at. It did say that you either had to run with your dog or ride a bike and that it must be completed in 2hs and 35min with a vet check and basic obedience test at the end.

Also this site only spoke of GS's do any other dogs perform these.

It is only out of curiosity that i ask this, i am no way fit enough to even contemplate doing this!!!

Thanks,

Trina

Re: Endurance Titles

Here is a link to the rules (I'm assuming they're the most current rules, but I could be wrong)...just scroll down a bit past the rules for the WH. http://????????.com/wh.htm#endtest

Re: Endurance Titles

There's a good article about conditioning for the AD here:

SiriusDog.com - Conditioning for the Ausdauerprüfung (AD)

The owners ride bikes :) And yes, rotties are allowed to compete.

Re: Endurance Titles

Also, I would make sure that you had OFA hips, elbows, and heart done before trying it. If the dog is under 2 years old, you can still have prelims done after 1 year old.

For what it's worth, we've had several owners ask if they could run this with their dogs and in every case they were told no.

I asked the judge if I could run it with him, and was told no. The owner/handler must ride a bike.

Re: Endurance Titles

That rules me out of that sport. I haven't ridden a bike in years and would be afraid of falling off of it or accidentally running over my poor dog.

Re: Endurance Titles

Thank you all for the information you provided, it was very helpful. Like i said i just read about it quickly on the dogs vic website and there wasn't much info at all on it and i just wanted a little more information.

Mavides, i cant get your link to work, even when i C&P it.

Liz, your link was very informative, thank you so much for posting it.

Skip, Jett is only 5 months old and I'd definately not enter her in it until she was at least 2 years old and yes, definately with certs done on her hips/elbows heart etc. Perhaps I will be fit enough by then who knows, it just sounded like something that would be interesting to find out about.

Cdn1050 - me too!!!!

Re: Endurance Titles

Trina, in the very beginning you do more braking than peddling. <laugh>
I've done the AD with several dogs. I think they are a great bonding experience for you and your dog. You both will get buns of steel. The only downside is that your neighbor's will probably think you're nuts. <grin>

Re: Endurance Titles

I'm sorry - now that I look at the link, it looks like it got changed -- perhaps because I think the rules I found were located on a breeder's website maybe? Perhaps this one will work.... Willamette Valley Schutzhund Club, AD
