Where to find herding farm.

Im new to this forum but have had my Rotty Tyson for almost 4 years now and have a couple of questions about herding.

Can I take my dog to just any herding farm? Will they let him herd sheep right away or is there some kind of process and training he will have to undergo before they let him at it?

I would also like to know if there are any herding farms near my area... Orlando, FLA.

I want my dog to experience some kind of natural instinct activity, he derserves it. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

David

Re: Where to find herding farm.

I am in Melbourne, FL and I herd at a farm in Malabar, about 30 min or less south of Melbourne. Usually you would make an appointment to bring your dog and have him tested for herding which involves putting your dog in a round pen, on leash, with 3 sheep. If he seems to have herding instinct you can move on from there. There will be a herding trial at this farm on Dec 1 & 2, you might want to come and watch. If so I will be happy to give you directions.

There is also a farm in St. Cloud where herding lessons are given.
