True, but trials sometimes bring surprises for even the big competitors,...I saw some zero scores at the nationals that surprised quite a few. My feeling is that any dog that goes there is being competitive, and with so few actually showing up, ANY dog that day can win it all. Maybe they should have some sort of minimum number of entries to push people to actually enter.

Re: National Schutzhund Championship

I think if the people in the working community would support the serious dogs when looking for a puppy, you would see a real big increase in working dogs here in the US. But even alot of the working people settle for pups out of show titled males with mediocre working ability.

For example, when Biko vom Herrenholz gets here, how many of you are going to line up to breed to him or get a pup from his litters?

Re: National Schutzhund Championship

the breed has alot of young dogs in the area, i am sure these # will slowly change, my couple of young guys are not old enought for the bh but that first then sch1--very cool after all the hard work to allow the dog to be able to get their chance, the national in N.Y went great it was wet and chilly-the judge was awesome...........

i cant imagine that any competant helper would be scared of any dog if they are find some new ones. 2 is awful late to start bite work but it can be done but you must start just like you would a young dog. the running away is simply a training issue your on leash handling has to be perfect before you start the off leash. also you need a way to control her if need be off leash when you start of leash let her drag a long line so with a couple knots tied in it so all you have to do is step on the line when she takes off and it will be self corecting on a prong

Arrow Re: National Schutzhund Championship

It seems there are quite a few people that are intrested but do not follow through. I do not want to be one of those people. How much time daily or weekly is needed for training (not basic)? I will not get my pup until late December and i am very interested with attending the shows. I have read through many posts and they all have different opions as to what training or clubs you should be a part of. I have found that all the decsions and choices to be a little stressful. Its like being pulled in different directions. The other thought that comes to mind is the time and travel to shows and the expense (travel costs). Local shows are a no brainer but when you talk about travel that will involve time off from work that would be limited. The breeder suggested we decide on training before i receive the pup so we can have a schedlue ready. I am not a novice with Rott's but after joining the forum I found there were many people who love the breed for what they are and what they can offer. I am happy to have a place to call home for Rott's.

if you didnt research your pup and get him for specific genetics for a particular type of work then just go visit differant clubs with your pup teach him manners there is no need to start formal training let alone have a schedule made out before you get the pup. you will end up with a better dog in the long run if you let it be a pup and have some fun. after you visit several venues then decide what you would like to do
