Re: new Sch 1...

Thanks to all. Also thanks to my USA club OG Ohio Hundesport, the TD John Nussbaum, his helper son Zack, and to the judge (SV) Hermann Schoemann. Shane hesitated, but didn't platz on the articles in tracking, and that's where we lost the most points. He saved this behavior for trial day, since he has platz'd on the articles consistently in training for the last 2 weeks. We were tracking twice a day, every day. He stayed tight on the track though to the end. He got up and sat halfway thru the long down...NEVER did that before. He sat at the end of the verous (send out) instead of platz...NEVER did that before. I was especially pleased with his "pronounced" rating in protection. Now we get to compete in the "Working Class" at the Sieger shows.

Re: new Sch 1...

Congrats Skip and Shane... Being a novice handler myself, I can honestly say that the worst part about schtuzhund is trial nerves! I lost weight before our first Schutzhund trial (unfortunately that doesn't work anymore)... We just trialed in our 8th Schutzhund trial and I can honestly say that the trial nerves have got a LOT better :) Although I still couldn't eat on trial day!

As for the 'he's never done that before syndrome'... Seems that many of the things are just trial nerves (the dog and you), but I've also learned that some of these behaviors may have manifested somewhere in training and you as the trainer need to keep an eye out for it... A couple of Maddie's "She's never done that before" habits have now become common (only on trial day)...

Congrats again... and good luck on the SchH 2....

Re: new Sch 1...

Great job Skip! Guess we'll wait till the USA magazine comes out to get a score! but anything above 70/70/80 is gravy!

I hope to have his 3 done by then, but we'll see. For those that asked, the scores were 73/ 83/ 80 ("pronounced"). Shane was VERY slow to out on the sleeve, and he did WAY too many rebites once he outed before the helper moved. His tracking had been super for the last couple weeks, but on trial day he only hesitated over the articles, but didn't platz. Still, I'm happy overall. I think the judge was very fair and accurate. Lots of stuff to work on before the 2.

Re: new Sch 1...

See Skip you got 16 more points than you actually needed to go on to SchH2!

Yep. I heard lots of horror stories from fellow club members on some of their dogs failing the 1st time...dogs that were good. Shane had done all 3 phases ESPECIALLY good for the 2 weeks before trial. On the previous wednesday at club, the TD said his scores would have all been in the 90's that day, but that wasn't trial day. But now we know what we really need to work on.

Good job!! Anything can happen in trials - dogs will be dogs! A relief you got through it eh?! We'll be doing our 1 hopefully over the winter, or spring too!
