Weight Pulling?

My Rott Max is about 1 year 11 months and I have become interested in weight pulling. Although I thought it best to wait, and start when his hips were developed fully, is he to old? If not can anyone give me some info about starting my Rott in weight pulling?

OK, At this age you can start to set up twice or three times a week a pulling session. What's his weight, how tall and what about his paws. are they well straight?

Anyway, no exercise more than 20mn !!

Weight pulling is a good exercise for Rotts for firming up and muscling their back. Especially if your Rott still has what we call in french a floating pelvis.

I have a male aged 14 monthes he weights 56 Kgs - so muscled - because he is used to train daily with me (running, jumping, swimming - max 20mn a day). But on top of everything the best exercise is swimming. For 2 monthes, I have stuffed his harness with 4 kg weight when he swims. Terrific, no effort on his hip, but a super training. Keep me aware ...

Hi! It has been a long time since I did weigh-pulling but.. it was fun! Worked on both snow and grass. We used a tire to start him pulling and worked him out several times a week. Lots of praise! The best weight-puller's (handlers") taught their dogs to "gee" and "haw" to break the sled out of the snow. Make sure your harness fits correctly and your "hook-up" is correct. The best pullers I saw were the Newfoundlands and secondly the Siberians. My male would pull as long as he could "walk" away with the load and after that he'd say, you got to be kidding. But we had fun with the other handlers and just a great way to be out with our dog. Ya, I waited until the OFA came back at two to do anything "heavy". The great benefit was that he pulled my kids and the neighbor kids on sleds during the winter and then we hooked him up to a "cart" and pulled small children for the rescue league charging .50 a ride and donating the money. He loved the kids and I was glad we took the effort to teach him to pull. Kay
