BH in SchH. We are in training for our BH in SchH. and I was wondering if anyone could give me more information on what to expect, any certain order to pattern just more information then whats in the rule book, I want to be prepared. My Rottie has finally recovered from her leg surgery so we haven't joined our area SchH. club yet. Went to a trial this spring but no one was going for a BH. And can you do your BH and FH same day? ------------------ Terri Vollertsen

Terri, The FH will be extremely hard, I would wait until someone could help you with the tracking. The rule book is vauge on the BH. Here are some suggestions: Make sure you dog can do a long down under distraction with you out of sight. (Another dog doing the routine close by). Make sure you know the count of the steps in each leg of the routine. Make sure your dog is used to bicycles, cars and people passing by. Make sure your dog will be OK stake out alone. A crowd will converge on your dog and another dog will pass by. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me direct.

Thanks for answering Orville. I have the books "Training the Competitive Working Dog" by Rose & Patterson and also "Tracking from The Beginning" by Patterson both books are really great they spoon feed you the training and I find it really easy to follow. But without getting to see someone do their BH I would just feel better someone who has done it telling me what goes on. My Rott is going to be 2 yr. old and she goes to work with me everyday so she is used to ALOT, I am a vet tech. Does the routine of BH follow as in the rule book then? Does the judge tell you what to do or do you do each step on your own? We have been working on all the things you suggested I'm just nervous about the order of things I guess. Once I get back with the club that will help but I have to wait couple more months before she will be able to go back to bitework. Also our tracking work is coming along really nice she loves to track so I have been just following book and doing a step at a time seems easy, so far!! Thanks again for your help. ------------------ Terri Vollertsen

Two teams will report to the Judge one will do the down stay while the other does the routine, then vice versa. The Judge will direct you. But you need to know the required steps. First is the on lead heeling pattern, then the off lead heeling pattern. Then you will do the sit and down out of motion. Once this part of the excercise is over, the other teams will report then later the 2nd phase will be done. All excercises should start with your dog sitting in heel position. One more note: When you go back to your dog on the down stay you move into heel position and give the command "sit". The dog must sit from the down.
