::::::sigh:::::

Well....

Elke went under the knife today for her spay....2 quiet ovaries and one uterus gone

Naturally, while she was under anesthesia, I Xrayed her hips...2 of the most BEAUTIFUL hips any of us have had the pleasure of looking at. She's almost 15 months now; and I'll still OFA her for her breeders purposes...but it was a bitter sweet thing seeing that Xray. I knew she had a great butt...but seeing it on film bummed me out that she is a puker. Oh...and she DID puke her guts out after she came out of the anesthetic

Oh well....what can ya do. WorkinDogz little workindog is now...spayed.

So often you here these stories. Never ever much fun. We took a bitch back recently from a customer who we heard had abused her. When we got her back she was a little lame. The vet thought she had had a massive trauma to the left rear (much swelling). By 12 months she was beautiful. Great confirmation, awsome working bitch but geting the x-rays done her left hip was no good (bad dysplacia), right looked real nice. I would never breed a dog like this even if the chances are it is conditional. Such a shame but these things happen.

Why did you spay her?

Mick.

Mick,

She was a car-puker. Short rides; long rides...didn't matter....she'd toss her cookies everytime.

Worked very hard to try to help her get over this (without shoving a Dramamine down her throat) but I consider puking on rides a sign of nerve problems. She should have been able to work through it and not puke every car ride.

Why keep a uterus in a bitch that isn't suitable for reproducing.

Bitter pill to swallow since she's a lovely worker in tracking and obedience....the bitework would have been just as "ok" as it is right now. Nothing to write home about.

Fair enough. Can't argue with a car puker being a nerve issue. Can't breed of anything with nerve problems. Mediocrity breeds rubbish.

Is Elk the Graf bitch?

Mick.

Now you have made me really sad.

Mmm, Time for a Graf/Mo Bitch.

I'll send you some puppy pics if you don't. Lots and lots of them.

Mick.

It is a very noble thing you have done WorkinDogz.

I have not been a member of this community for very long, but I think if there were more like you, we would all be much better off.

Thank you for practicing what you preach, we can all take an example from you.

Thank you and all the best for a speedy recovery.

Well thanks Kiko but, I wish I didn't have to practice what I preach with THIS bitch.

She's a beautiful girl with personality PLUS...genuinely a wonderful representative of the breed in both conformation and temperament.

Just goes to show you....no matter how strong the working lines are behind a dog, not every single one of them will excell in the work.

They are all individuals and really need to be evaluated as such....without even looking at the pedigree UNTIL they prove THEMSELVES.

I'm sure she'll have nooooooo trouble with her "pet" status She's really a great dog to be around....and a keeper for me.

The bitch is 15 mos old. Workindogz works at a Vet clinic. This bitch was in perfect health, the puking was not a result of an illness. At what point do we concede that she had a nerve problem? At 24 mos, after 1 litter, 2 litters?

Mother nature will never reveal her secrets, so taking a pup with the goal of responsible breeding will always be a "Roll of the dice", even with the very best of breedings, like Elke!

Workindogz is to be commended for this action! She "Talks the talk", AND she "Walks the walk". I'm proud to know her as a sport friend!!! I'm also saddened by the news

Thanks Czech...I knew you'd understand.

Elke is doing well...played with her favorite SAR dog (a Newfie) today and will be coming home with me after work tomorrow. Thought I'd let her stay at the "Hilton" for a couple of days so she would have time to heal without being harassed by the other dogs.

Belgium....you're absolutely entitled to your opinion...I just happen to absolutely disagree with it

Hi Working,
Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth...I have gotta give ya credit girl you are a true protector of our breed and I am very proud of your actions! If more people had your honesty & dedication to this breed we would not have as many problems as we do..So keep up the great work!! I am sorry you had to do it but it just goes to show there are good & honest people in this breed that can & do walk the walk!!

Workindogz,
I am sorry about Elke
I am grateful to learn many things from this forum. I did not realize that carsickness could be a sign of weak nerves. What is the basis for this hypothesis?

Since I disagree with my beautiful wife who just happens to be pro spay/neuter. I am glad to brag that 7 month old Gucci does not puke from car rides. The freacken Devil's child doesn't even appear to be afraid of things "he is afraid of." If you understand what I mean....... I assume he has what men call B**** and the dog world calls nerves. Am I correct?

Brought him out to our Sch club last weekend and Gretchen;BostonRott brought him onto the field...he did good. Grabbed the beginners burlap rag and wanted to kill it. Brought it over the stairs to the truck for his proud puppa.

By the way Workin we were starting to bond for awhile. What happened....you playing hard to get? I lose interest very quick so don't play to long

Well Belgium...I don't puke in a car, plane, train or boat....I have good nerves.

It really is ok Belgium...my standards for "quality" are just different from yours. Nerve is very important to me.

Thank you BETTY....I appreciate your kind words.

Grumbler....did you forget your medication again??? LMAOOOO You bond over there buddy...LOL (Glad to hear that Gucci did well!!!! YOU be glad he doesn't puke on the way to training...LOL)

HEY, Hey...WorknDogz did not put the bitch down. We are having Linda spayed next month for our own reasons.

I have a question/doubt about puking being a nerve problem. But it is just questions. If the puking began as the ride began...every time...and over along period of time..(she's 18mos)OK But if she only got sick on long rides after a substantial period of time in the vehicle, while she was trying to read a book LOL maybe it was not a "nerve thing"

Anyway, IMO all dogs/bitches that are not to be breed should be neutered. And not just to protect the breed.

Lynn

Hi Workindogz: If your Girl looked anything like my friends graf daughter...No wonder you are upset about having her spayed...

But, I must agree with your decision(not that you need any of us to approve it)

She is your girl...Your decision and I think you did right by the dog!!!!!!!! Is'nt that what we all are always talking about in this Forum?

BTW, Czech....I know someone who says you are a great guy...Andy...is not only the President of our Rottie Klub, but also a good friend of ours....I was asking him if he saw you at the nationals...Anyway, thats how I found out he knew you...

So Have a great Day Everyone....Rottiegirl
