Dog Scouts of America

Has anyone ever herd of Dog Scouts of America? If so are any of you involved in it? I was talking to someone at an event this weekend and she was telling me about it. It sounds like a lot of fun for both Dog and human.

Re: Dog Scouts of America

Babyblu, I am also in Arlington and have joined the local Dog Scout troop! I'm looking forward to being a part of the troop and having my Rottie girl Tiponi earn some merit badges. Tiponi is just finishing up her advanced obedience and still needs to pass her CGC which is a requirement for all Dog Scouts.

I am not crazy about the forum they use for information but they offer some great activities and are planning their own TX mini-camp in October. Hiking, backpacking, first aid, obedience, etc.!

Re: Dog Scouts of America

I remembered after I replied who you were! LOL

Tiponi & I went to our first meeting on Saturday. You don't have to wait until you have your CGC, Tiponi's test is in two weeks.

It was a nice group of people and with the rain there were about 14 dogs that were there. Cindy had told me when I first talked to her that Tiponi would be the first Rottie but another has since joined but not there yesterday.

We played dog games, a sitting contest to see who would sit first on command and Tiponi went through the first round, missed the second round by a tail hair! We also played Lassie Says (dog equivilent to Simon Says), Tiponi & I tied with two others for first place. The last one we did...there were two lines and we had to compete against each other, we had to heel our dogs by weaving around cones while balancing a frisbee on our head. If it fell off we had to go back to the starting point of whichever end we had started at (had to go to the end & back).

So for continued obedience practice it was great, the Lassie Says was walking, sitting, downs. Tiponi was so tired when she got home she was grouchy with Goliath!

Hope to see you there!!

Becky
