I know this isn't really covered in the Working Rotts forum, but since it's a competition, and training for, I am going to move there for you.

I haven't started weight pulling yet with my rottie but I will when he is about 16 months old. I will ONLY be using it for conditioning and not weightpull competition. If I wanted to compete I would use a bullbreed such as a pit or American Bulldog. I have started my bulldog weightpulling as a hobby because she isn't a good protection sport dog. I have seen video's where the pups are started at a very young age (I believe 4 months or younger). The kennel Mountain Gator Kennels has produced some of the best weightpull dogs ever and his is the video I saw. I can't offer much advice other than to go slow and make it fun for your dog. Always put your dog's health first and don't over do it.

When previously talking about this subject someone asked why not use a rott for competition. Well you can but you probably won't win. To get some facts goto the International Weight Pull Association. They have a listing of the highest weights pulled and the pulls are dominated by pits for the lower weights and then American Bulldogs followed by the Alaskan malamutes and then mastiff breeds/crosses.

MGK's Bam Bam and Gator Red are not only great weight pullers, they're also great looking Johnson Bulldogs!
