Agility on Hold

For those of you who have followed Elijah's agility career I just wanted to let you know that we are on hold for the time being. :( It all started with a slip on the ice and what appeared to be a sprain...R&R and Rimadyl.......everything seemed fine..no more limp...did great in UKC competition. Later the limp reappeared....to make a long story short, Elijah had cruciate ligament surgery on March 1. The Dr. says he has had a 90% success rate with this surgery and with the proper rehab Elijah should be able to do agility again (arthritis later).

Meanwhile we will miss the UKC All Star competition in June (that hurts), the ARC agility in Mason, Ohio...we were so looking forward to that...the list goes on.

The day after Elijah's surgery I received my copy of The Rottweiler Magazine. They list the Top 25 Rottweilers in Agility (according to MACH points earned in 2003)...Elijah is #18 with 26 points. We didn't make the Top 10 this year but I sure was tickled to see him in the 25 list! :)

So, I hope someday to do some more agility brags.......if all goes well maybe we will be competing again by August. :)

Re: Agility on Hold

Poor Elijah!! Hope he's back to tearing up the agillity course as soon as he can. Brodie sympathizes, he remembers what it was like when he had his surgery in October. He didn't get to have any fun for a looong time.

Congrats on being in the Top 25!!

Jaime

I have always loved hearing of Elijah's progress and seeing those great pictures. I am sorry things are delayed and am confident he will have a full recovery and will shine his way to the top. Congrats on your progress so far.

*hugs*

Re: Agility on Hold

I want to thank everyone for the good wishes for Elijah's recovery. :) Right now he is still on antibiotics so is doing alot of sleeping......it is going to be a real challenge keeping him confined and inactive once the meds are done. It is going to be a long haul but I am keeping a positive mental attitude that we will be back on course doing what we love one day. :) This sport is so addictive for dogs and people. :)

My agility friends are sending me course maps from their trials so I can keep up mentally and tonight I go back to class (without Elijah) to walk the courses, etc.

I'm so sorry to hear about Elijah, Makita and I wish him a speedy recovery. You've both made such a fantastic team, no matter what happens, you have accomplished so much, we are all proud of you and Elijah.

I hope he can jump again someday, all in time. Give him get well kisses from us. :)
