No snottiness intended...and better/worse is your opinion...I just see the use of a smiley face sometimes used to still get a subtle opinion out there, then to pull it back with the label of a "joke" smiley face (no smiley face, wink, or smile inserted here). I just thought it an interesting comment on your part since it didn't respond to the op's question at all. But that's just my opinion. I guess I'm also guilty of not answering the op's original question, so I'll leave it at that. |

| Especially in ScH, it is just plain and simple, the dog's safety is first priority. With a dog hitting you head on that launches a few meters you as a helper have to be spot on. If a helper was to "stone-wall" my dog I will FREAK, I don't care who the helper is. Sure no one is perfect, but when I go into a trial I give everything for the dog's safety that I am working. Helpers that continually stonewall dogs should be scrapped, I know a lot of good helpers that I have never once seen a bad pick up and then other guys that officiate at premier events that are a circus, breaking dog's teeth etc. and they get to continue officiating. :banging head:

| Decoys Quote:
We had a guy who came to our club to "decoy" and continually stonewalled our dogs. Needless to say he got the boot very quickly. He is now a "certified" decoy for an organization. :( :( I worry about the dogs that he will decoy for in that organization. :( Oh I forgot :o my definition of "jamming" aka stone-wall is not moving to catch the dog. Standing rock solid and just letting the dog hit you and not stepping with the momentum of the dog. JMHO

| Shortly before my boy's mother was to do her schI she was jammed. She was never able to do schH again. I unfortunately never met her, but my understanding was that she was an awesome worker.

| To use an analogy, when being taught to catch a ball, you're taught to give with the ball (with your gloved hand). By absorbing the impact via motion backwards, you decrease the chances of the ball popping out of your glove..............because you've disipated the energy via backwards motion (giving with the ball). Catching a moving/flying dog follows the same principles........."give" with the dog, in order to disipate the kinetic energy of the dog's forward motion. Otherwise, you jam it all right back down the dog's neck.
