| We've got a Drop on Recall! We've just started working on the Open exercises, and we've been working the dumbbell. We've got about a 2 second hold going on. Taking it slowly, not pushing too hard, and things are moving forward. But holy cow, the drop on recall!!! I've been slowly increasing my distance over time in the drop on all fours without moving forward from a stand, and she's been consistent and quick from about 30 feet away for a couple weeks now. So this afternoon, I decided to try it from forward movement. She got it! In a couple tries, she was hitting the dirt from a gallop, I ran up to praise, ran back, and then called her into a front. Wow, I love those moments when it all comes together and the dog just "gets it.":D

| Laurie - That's wonderful to hear! You two are doing great! I know what you mean about really getting excited when the dog 'gets it'...like all of the repetitions have finally sunk in. I've been having fun with calling out"heel" randomly while play training. My girl will come running from wherever, stopping whatever, and drops right into perfect heel position with attention! For me this is an accomplishment because now I know that SHE knows what it means and where she's to be when I say it! I also do the random downs while playing. Best wishes to you two and keep that momentum going! kathy |
