Schutzhund changes to VPG. Have you heard this?

From Olympus Schutzhund Club. (a DVG club)

Latest information from Germany: from now on, the name Schutzhund (in german, Schutzhundpruefung) will be changed to VPG (in german- Vielseitigkeitspruefung fuer Gebrauchshunde) which roughly translated means 'versatility test for working dogs'. As a result Schutzhund I will now be VPG 1, Schutzhund II will be VPG II, and Schutzhund III will be VPG III. Another change will be that we no longer have Tracking, Obedience and Protection. It is now officially called A, B and C.

New to me...

I believe it is basically an attempt to call a rose a carrot for political reasons.

Hahahahahaha. I love that. It is indeed the reason for the name change. Hoping that a politically correct name will take some of the heat off.

Mick.

This change occured almost a year ago, I believe. ADRK changed their dogbase program already, and lists dogs as VPG/SchH 1, etc.

I know it was VPG when we hosted the DVG Nationals. That would have been abouts May 2002... Man, time flies :)

I'm not certain, but I think the 'bite' command is no longer allowed either (on the courage test), but in essence the dog is still doing the 'same' thing. If two commands were allowed I think I'd send my dog with the command "Have Fun".

That's just rediculous! What is the big deal?

How about this for a command.
TICKLE! ;)

Is it only a matter of time before the protection sports are banned?
Dogophobes are going nuts?

HelllOOoooo, these dogs are NOT the ones out biting people willy nilly, folks!

I dont think there was ever a rule on what command to give the dog on the courage test, so I dont see how you could make one command against the rules. Furthermore, most of the time you cannot tell what the person tells the dog, since they are a good distance away. You could say bite and no one would ever know the difference. And I also dont believe a command is required at all, so if no one heard you, that also wouldnt make a difference.
And yes, I believe it is only a matter of time before a protection trained dog, or several, makes the headlines and lawmakers begin to take a good look at the sports. JMO.

Certainly this is true, but the point was that there is/was discussion of not allowing the 'bite' command at all and how the sport is starting to get watered down. We all know that most dogs don't need any command at all and saying anything or nothing at all will send the dog screeching down the field (hopefully!).
