| I am a little slow here..I need help Emilys trainers started her on agility training they said that would do her some good for her shyness and fear problems. She did great!!! she went through the tunnel with no problem and they are having her walk over the posts laying on the ground flat as she walks over them I tell her jump. They said she is doing great. There are a lot of people on here that have there dogs in agility shows. So my question is does she have to have papers like AKC to be in one? Also I had her spayed is that a nono with the agility shows? And are there any good websites out there that could explain some of the things in agility training? I would love to get her involved in this but I know nothing about it.

| The only thing I can tell you is that if the event is an AKC sanctioned event then the dog has to have either it's AKC or ILP papers. Spaying is only a nono when it comes to confirmation showing(as far as I know). Jaime

| Go for it! Before she can be entered in an AKC obedience trial or agility, or any AKC event for that matter, Emily will need to get an ILP -- Independent Listing Privlige. Here's a link to AKC's web site and agility: http://www.akc.org/dic/events/agility/index.cfm You can do a search on ILP and it should give you all the details. |

| Well Emily does not have no AKC papers my smart hubby got her from some BYB who bred rottweilers to show people what good dogs they are. That is why I was asking if they had to have papers

| You have several options: You can get her an AKC ILP number. ILP stands for Indefinite Listing Priviledge. It allows you to basically register her as a "Rottweiler without papers." She will not be entered in the stud books, and must be spayed before the ILP number will be issued. It will allow you to compete in ALL AKC events except Conformation. Also, there are two other "flavors" of agility: NADAC and USDAA. They each have their own website, though I don't know what the websites are. Both allow any dog to run, you can either choose what breed you think your dog is, or run as an All American. Hope that helps. Agility really is a FUN sport, enjoy!! :) :)

| YA'LL ARE THE BOMB!!:D I just requested the paper work for the ILP. Emily is already spayed so that is a plus! Are there any good books on agility?

| Here's a bunch of them: http://www.sitstay.com/store/books/agility1.shtml They can be a little pricey but if you find one, you may find a better price on Amazon or some other site. |

| What is the optimal age for applying for an ILP? The AKC requires the dog be six months old. Kudlow is just six months now and goes under the knife on Monday. Should I apply for the ILP soon or wait until he's older? Are there advantages or disadvantages to doing it either way? Am I more likely to get approved if he's older? (Sorry for the hijack, Varinia.) Christine |

| Good questions I was wondering that also. Emily is already spayed and she turns six months on the 21st.

| There isn't really any optimal age to apply. I mean I can't see any difference if you apply immediately after neutering or any time there after. Approval is usually a given. |

| I see no reason to not apply ASAP. It's simply a number assigned to your dog to facilitate trialing. What benefit would waiting give?

| I was wondering if the AKC is more likely to give an ILP to an adult dog versus a puppy, that's all. Rott-Wiley says that approval is usually a given so I guess it doesn't matter how old the dog is! Christine |
