Herding

Our breeder is totally involved in herding and encourages her dogs to give it a try. We haven't taken Makita over, she's only a year old and it's a hundred dollar trip cuz we have to take a ferry. Her dad is a herder though, I tell that to people when they question our choice of breed. I say "her dad HERDS sheep, he doesn't EAT them". That usually has some impact. You can check out our breeders site at
Coultrain Rotties

Good luck to all you future herders !!

I checked out your breeder's Website.

I've been looking for a place to pursue herding with Moxer; too bad BC is so far from me--that'a a nice looking facility they have :D

I've been thinking about it and talking to a bunch of people, and after much consideration, I've decided to hold off on this. I've located a place about an hour from me that gives herding lessons, so I think we're going to start with that this summer. Thanks everyone for your comments!

Are you going to Branstock in Berryville?

Yes, that's the place! I haven't contacted them yet, but I've read a bunch of articles about them and checked out their website. It seems like a really nice operation. Do you have any experience with them? :)

I haven't personally been there, but I have heard lots of good things about them. They work with all breeds, which is sometimes rare in the herding world.
I know several people have taken their rotties there and been very happy with them.
Until I got a local instructor I had considered going there even though it is a 3 hr drive for me.

Let us know how it goes!!
