arv and awdf I posted this in Chit Chat, and got no answers, so I'll try here. AWDF-American Working Dog Federation ARV-American Rottweiler Verein I know that AWDF is all-breed, and ARV includes conformation. Other than that, from a spectator point-of-view, are these organizations and competitions similar? Thanks, Mary Mac

The AWDF is an all breed organization that is gear towards the promotion of working dogs. Here is their web site http://www.awdf.net/ The ARV is a Rott breed club, they are geared towards the promotion of the Rottweiler. In my opinion they are first and for most a conformation organization, then they try to promote the working Rottweiler. I have a strong opinion of the ARV, so I will leave things at that! ;) It depends where your interest is, work or conformation?

Thanks Doug. I enjoy watching conformation, but all my dogs are rescued, and either mixed or unpapered, so it will never be a sport for me. But a dog with a job, now that I find exciting. I have been to an ARV show before, and other than going to local police exhibitions had never been exposed to that kind of competition. But the AWDF National Championships will be here (Charlotte NC) the last of March, and I was just wondering what to expect if I go. Not too many people seem to know about the AWDF, but most I've talked to think it's an up and coming group. BTW, I don't know too much about ARV either, but I get your drift! Thanks again! Mary Mac

Mary If you have never been to a SchH trial let alone a National event if you can go, go and watch! I am sure you will find it interesting. Their should be dogs there representing many different breeds, that is one of the fun things about an AWDF event. The breed clubs have different rules on how they come up with the teams that represent each club, plus some dogs may be there as independents, meaning they represent the breed of course, but not the breed club. The Rott club that is a member club of the AWDF is the USRC, not the ARV. I would assume their may be as many as 50 or maybe more dogs entered, competing at SchH 1, 11, 111.
