Schutzhund title question..

Sometimes I will see a dog listed as XXXXXXXXXX, BH, Sch 1,....
Since you can't get a "1" without getting a 'BH' first, why list both?.

In response to this same question, I was told that a while back it was not required to get the BH before the Sch I and the BH was listed in addition to the Sch titles b/c it was an 'extra' title... I'm not sure of the time frame of when it changed, but that was the explanation I received... Must be people continue to list the BH along w/ the SchHI, II, III...

I'm guessing, since I know next to nothing about Schutzhund, but I assume it's similar to obedience titles: you list each one because the dog earned each one. You see dogs with "CD", "CDX", "UD" and "UDX" all listed, even though the dog has to get each title before the next, so just listing the highest title is a statement in itself that the dog has earned all the previous ones. But the dog did earn them all, so why not have a long and impressive list of letters after its name, even if they're not strictly necessary? :)

Actually you don't because one is not allowed to go for the next level until they have completed the lower ones. A UD dog does not list his CD or CDX.

The reason for both in ScH is that there will be numerous dogs where the ScH I does not assume a BH

According to the United Schutzhund Club of America, the BH is a pre-requirement for Schutzhund titles:

I don't see the point in listing it separately, unless you just want to fill up space.

Like Judi mentioned, it wasn't always the case that a BH was required, so in order to differentiate between the dogs who did get a BH and those who didn't, the BH is still listed.

As has been mentioned, the BH did not used to be required. I also believe there are countries where one can earn an IPO1 without the BH. It's just a "matter of practice" to list it.

I'm sure I've seen that done (as I said, I knew it didn't have to be done, but I'm sure I've seen it done in breed magazines and that sort of thing). Maybe I misremembered.

What you might have seen is
xxxxUD, Can CDX

or something like that. In other words if a title comes from a different agency, it would be listed seperately. That would be the only reason. That or a really novice owner and really novice owners don't have titles beyond the CD level
