| Obviously the first thing to do is to take the time and increase your knowledge on the whole matter as well as related aspects. This way you start to get a feel for things and become more in tune with your requirements of the dog. Firstly I would source various clubs/organisations and start off by visiting them and just watching how they go about their training, there is also quite a few video tapes out there on various stages of PP training and maybe even taking the time to educate yourself regarding sport dogs which will give you more insight as to what drives a dog, what motivates a dog and also generally how various dogs fit the profile. Unfortunately through trial and error is how many people find there feet yet in some instances may be a tough road with many disapointments. Fact is in the begging we all make mistakes and years down the line look back and say, " damn if I only knew then what I know now"! So don't be in a hurry, take the time to really pick a reputable person to guide you and your dog through the training when the time is right and remember, provided that your dog genetically has the correct make-up to operate proficiently as a PP dog, that the whole concept really goes deep with associated responsibilty. But definately it is great fun and pleasure to go out there, work with your dog and through training watch how he becomes moulded into a sociable, reliable companion.
Good luck!
