Mox & I Attended a Two Day Tracking Seminar

this weekend.

Sponsored by our local humane society, Miles Garrod was the speaker at this beginner event.

Boy, did we have fun! The class combined field work and classroom lecture. Miles is a character and, as an AKC tracking judge, knows his stuff.

Mox seemed to have fun and I know I certainly did, so I plan to put a TD on her.

There were 12 people in the class (the maximum Miles feels he can manage) and a group of us were so inspired we're gonna set up a Yahoo! group so we can help each other by getting together periodically and track. The group will come to our house (we have 2, 15-20 acre fields Mo keeps mowed), another woman lives across the street from 250 acres of conservation land and she works her German Shorthairs in its huge fields, and somebody else has fields around his house that he'll talk to the owner about letting us use to track.

The humane society will repeat the seminar twice in 2003.

One thing I thought was neat were the number of shelter and rescue dogs and mixes in the class. This probably isn't surprising, since our local humane society sponsored the event, but it was nice to see rescue people working their dogs.

Everyone had a good time--it was a very successful event in that it taught us something and motivated many of us to go on.

Sounds like fun! I have a friend who over the past 2 years has become an AKC tracking addict. She has two young females who are doing great at the sport. We often share stories about our tracking adventures. Since I track schutzhund style (or try to), it is interesting to hear about the differences between the two.

I hope the snow holds up long enough for you to get some tracking done!!!
