| How to start a working dog?? I don't know anything about working dogs except what I see on TV or in the forums. I would like to get my dog into some competitions ect. as a hobby for us. He does not have to be a champion or anything, I would just like for him to have a "job". This will provide for better excersize and help us interact more. My question is where do you start? I don't know the first thing about this stuff. We are in a puppy class now and I plan on getting him obedience trained. What are my options as far as "jobs"? Is there a website on competitions and things for dummies? Basically I want to start from scratch and dont know anyone in the business.... Thanks, s3rous & Titan(12 week old Rott) |

| Good for you for thinking ahead. Keep up with your training, keep in classes and unless you have a specific dog sport in mind let your dog show you what his stregnths are and shape them from there! The american kennel club would be a good place to learn about a handful of different dog sports. Ask your dog trainer about good local dog sports. Often training clubs will host many different competitions. "He does not have to be a champion or anything, I would just like for him to have a "job". This will provide for better excersize and help us interact more. " You are good to be thinking of this early. A well exercised dog that exercises his mind is a happy dog! There's many experts in different dog sports on this forum... so they will know better on channeling you into specifics! Good Luck.

| There is a giant world of oppurtunity out there for a dog who needs a job. :) Here's a link to my web site that lists many of the various activities that you can participate in with your dog. Most of the links are to pages with good basic info how how to get started. http://members.aol.com/rottweilerwor..._competing.htm To me there nothing better than a rottie with a good job!
