| Working differences I currently only do obedience with my dog, he has qualified novice and will be moving to A. My problem is that it is getting a bit boring and I would like to branch out to other working activities. My question is how do IPO, Schutzehund and CD etc... differ. What are the requirements to qualify?

| I'm in a hard position to answer cause I don't know what ya mean by IPO (is that the internation Sch program?) nor CD. It all depends on whether or not a-you like bite work and b- are you willing to devote the time and effort needed to do any of the dog sports? I suppose obedience and agility are fine if you don't like bite work; it's supposed to be great fun, some say. I personally prefer Frenchringsport or mondioring; I think they're much more challenging (for me and my dog!). In any case you have to start with an obedient dog. Doesn't your ob club/course also offer other sports? if not go around to the different sports clubs in your area, watch some trials and then have your dog tested to see if he's up to bite work or not; Then just go from there ;) Leader

| Schutzhund, or IPO have three phases. Tracking, Obedience, and protection. Before you can compete on the begining level Sch or IPO I, you must first pass a BH. The fact that you have trained your dog to a Companion Dog title would indicate that you would almost be ready to do the obedience phase now. There are some adjustments that will have to be made. You dog will have to learn to sit and down out of motion. You will be walking when you give these comands without stoping, turning, or any motion other than the normal motion during a walk. The is a gun shot fired when heeling off lead, and the about is to the left into the dog. Then you also have the traffic portion of the test. I would recommend that you join a club so they can help you prepare for these difference. Once you have the BH, you have all of the requirements to enter a Sch or IPO trial. The BH and 16 months of age are the only requirements, but it will take some time to prepare for all three phases. Trying to do this outside of a club is an extremely difficult task. Again, I would recommend that you join a club.

| Thanks, am still trying to find a decent club, they are rare in these parts. Storm stays in PE, which is about 1000km away. Am thinking of joining the Doberman clubs IPO , but this is also quite far.
