Schutzhund and the AKC

We used to have Schutzhund trials at regional and national specialty shows until the AKC made such events illegal for AKC related shows. Ice was broken this past year when the GSDCA received permission to have one. There is hope that this has opened the door a crack for the sport dogs to once again be united with the breed clubs. A recent article in Dog News decried such a thing. I am not copying the Dog News article as it is copywrited, however the following is a rebuttal written by Wayne Davis, President of the GSDCA-WDA. I feel this is very important and warrents attention. The best of both worlds would have recognition of the TOTAL Rottweiler in a united forum. Thank you for your attention.

Dear Sports friends,

I am writing this letter to advise our members of the WDA, as well as, all
dog fanciers in the United States. There is a matter of utmost importance
concerning the sport of Schutzhund that has come to my attention. The issue
at large concerns a letter authored by Mrs. Denny Kodner and was published
in the February issue of Dog News. The article is titled Attack Dog
Events-Do We Need Them?

I have attached a copy of the article with this writing for your review. It
is imperative that we who believe in the sport of Schutzhund submit written
correspondence to Mr. Jim Crowley, Secretary of the AKC at 260 Madison
Avenue, New York, NY 10016 e-mail jxc@akc.org expressing our support for
Schutzhund in the United States. Mrs. Kodner's writing is her opinion only
and she has that right to freedom of speech. I ask that you do not rebut
her article, but instead inform Mr. Crowley of the importance of the sport
in our country. We need to thank the AKC for allowing us the opportunity to
demonstrate the sport of Schutzhund by allowing us to hold the National
Schutzhund Invitational. We should mention that Schutzhund is not only a
growing sport for many strata of our society but is a very valuable tool for
breeders who wish to produce dogs that are capable of serving mankind in
practical ways, e.g. police/military work, bomb/drug detection, cadaver
searching, search and rescue, etc. You may forward this letter to all
responsible individuals who you believe will be reasonable in their approach
regarding this issue. I reiterate, please do not rebut her article. Let her
writing speak for itself. Thanking you in advance.

Wayne Davis
President GSDCA-WDA
