American Street Ring

Does anyone have any info on this type of sport/training or has anyone actually participated in it?

Check out this link to a post. It was discussed in length about a year ago.

Well darn, the link didn't work sorry. Do a search for American Street Ring and there is some good discussion on it.

i looked into training with a group that competed in ASR. if you're interested in my experiences send me a PM.

i considered working with a group of folks outside of St. Louis. their emphasis was training for real-life scenarios. a variey of breeds were being used; GSD, mal, pitbull, rottie, etc.

When I went down to Tarheel Canine Training Center in North Carolina for the Stewart Hilliard seminar that is what the club was training for. Seemed like a cool sport. With a lot of emphasis on actually simulating "real" work.

I believe that the Tarheel club also trains for a sport called PSA

Protection Sport Assoc. it is a new sport started by Joe Morris and Jerry Bradshaw... it is similar to ASR.... I have been to two such trials.... pretty good stuff.....

one difference I noted between PSA and ASR was OB... ASR doesn't seem to take OB that seriously...

You know what Matt, you're right - I'm wrong! I had a brain fart. It is PSA. Sorry!

i agree with matt, ASR is all about realistic scenarios that can be quite drawn out...

there is little to no focus on OB, just get your dog to do the work
