New TDI title!!!

Holy Moly!!!

Sam the Man blew away the TDI test this afternoon! I quote the evaluator with “He is the perfect representative for the Rottweiler breed” and wrote “Sweetheart” in the comments part of the paperwork.

He didn't flinch at anything...acted like the walker and the crutches weren't even there. I am so proud of him!!! This was the one accomplishment I wanted to do with him. I can't believe it.

Way to Go Monster Man...you are an awesome boy.

On to our CD this spring...we have a trial the 15 and the 16th of April in Warwick, RI and we're eyeing a trial on the 29th of April too. We shall see....

Congratulations! When is your first therapy visit!?

I don't know when we're going to do our first visit...I'm guessing that will depend on when we get our paperwork back? I'm not even sure where around here I can go for therapy work. I'm betting they will tell me were I can.

I'm looking forward to getting his CD...then I may go on to rally and start tracking. Someone who is in the training circle down here is planning on starting a "Working Dog Group" where we can all go and play around with the different parts of Schutzhund...I would try to get Sam his BH and do the obedience part of it and the tracking. My trainer also suggested I get Sam registered with the UKC and also do their trials. But, we'll take it one step at a time...and as Sam gets older (he just turned 7 ) we may just stick with the therapy work.

ROFL...Sam's gotta catch up on his rest before he gets back to rockin' on! He's still tired!!! LOL I have yet to see him do anything but sleep since we got back yesterday!

I did forget to say that he also did a show and go Friday night...so he has had an action packed weekend.

If you want to visit with a group, TDI can probably provide you with information on groups in your area. Sometimes there is a group associated with the local Humane Society.

If you don't mind visiting as an individual with your dog, just start calling local nursing homes. There is a great need for pet therapy visits in nursing homes. And not enough people and pets providing visits. I called a nursing home a half mile from my house, and they practically begged me to come and visit. We wound up visiting every Saturday for nearly 5 years until Jazz retired in January.

Other places that like to have therapy dog visits are hospitals (particularly pediatric and cardiovascular depts) and residence homes for mentally and/or physically handicapped individuals.

I'll probably start out with TDI first since I have never done anything like this before and I don't know what to expect. But there is something what I think may be a nursing home a mile up the road from me. Once I get more confident with the Therapy work, I'll contact them and if they would like to have me come.
