Female in heat drinking more water

I have a two year old Rottie female who is in heat. She is drinking more water than usual. She is also urinating more often. The weather is heating up outside, but she is an indoor dog with air conditioning. I am waiting until she is out of heat so the vet can get a "clean" urine sample. Am I doing the right thing?

Re: Female in heat drinking more water

Urinating more during a heat is normal, but since she's 2 I'm sure this isn't her first season, so you must know what's normal for her. Urinating more would lead to drinking more. Add the hot weather you're having and this is not necessarily anything to worry about.
The fact that she's in season should not stop you taking a sample to the vet if you think it's needed. The lab will still be able to find any bacteria regardless.
I would always err on the side of caution. If you suspect a vet visit would be a good idea - then GO.

Yes, it would be worth your peace of mind to have her checked out. Living in the air conditioning shouldn't make her thirst increase or more frequent urination.

Well, after urine and blood tests, everything it fine. The vet said that it is probably left over hormones from her heat cycle.
