8 month old Rottweiler has ear driness and loss of hair

Our 8 month old Rottweiler has dry skin and loss of hair on the tip of both of her ears. She has been tested for mites and a fungal infection both have came back negative. The vet is suggesting to go to a dermatologist or that it may be bad circulation and we try a drug she has and is not sure if it is ok for puppies. Has anyone else had this issue with there dog.

im not sure why your pup could be loosing hair on the top of his ears, Dry skin... that could be many things... do you brush enough,what food is the pup eating,is it dry in your home? What gets me is your vet is not sure if a drug she or he is about to supply is good for your pup my 1st step would be get a new vet.

Well the vet isnt sure what it is we are going tomorrow for another visit with the vet to go over our options so I will get more details. I just cant wait till tomorrow and am freaking out we love her so much and dont want to see anything go wrong with her. We have tried so hard to be good dog owners through puppy classes and in home training classes. Up to date on all her shots and everything.

We feed her Nutromax for puppies.

It is on the tips of her ears it started out as swollen and a little dry. Then became very dry and hair fell out in small clumps with skin attached to it. Now it is bald in a dime sized spot on the tip of her ear and small amount of puss and a little bleeding. The other ear isnt as bad and you cant even see she has lost hair there but it is swollen and a little dry.

I would get a new vet. It could be anything from allergies to mites to mange. Your vet doesn't sound very sure of anything.

I agree... a new vet. It could be manage? or ringworm? Where does she spend time sleeping? Is she crated? What kind of bedding is in her crate? Does she have a dog bed? What is it washed with?? It could be a contact dermatitis ??

Also Nutromax is a poor quality food. I would get her off a grain based food and onto a meat based food. It may not be the cause of her problems but it may help her fight off whatever her problem is if she is eating good food. She needs a food with no corn, no wheat, no soya and no meat by-products.

While your looking for a new vet...which I agree or at least get a second opinion. What about your Breeder? I would definitely contact the breeder this may be something she is familiar with in her lines or perhaps has at least had happen before. I have never seen it, other then when puppies gnaw on each others ears, which can sometimes cause swelling and welts. So he or she may know, and after all that's what breeders are there for to help guide you.

there are a lot of great foods out there i just went threw the same thing read in the Nutrition and Grooming... there is so much info we just put our girl on Orijin a week ago and already see a big difference in her allergies.... please have a look so many great diets...

Again I would say contact your Breeder - that is what they are there for. Your relationship does not end when you buy, or even adopt a pup, a good breeder will be there to help you, and so will a good rescue group.

Any of the natura brand foods are pretty reliable, they have a website and aren't quite as expensive as orijen, although orijen is a fantastic food to give. Since going to your vet again what did they say?

Had to take my puppy off corn based foods, just put her on Orijen and she is doing well
