George has a ruptured cranial oruciale ligament

Hi everyone
I need some advise about surgery for George. He needs to go to a specialist what I'm asking is should I drive him Guelph or just take him to a local surgeon. I know Guelph has a better team. My vets has said it was up to me.

Post Re: George has a ruptured cranial oruciale ligament

How old is George? Do some reading here...we've been discussing this subject often. There are a number of different surgeries that can be done...depending on age and weight, etc.

If I had a young/younger dog I would probably go with the Tightrope surgery...much less evasive then the TPLO...and cheaper. Dog heals up quicker.

If I had a middle aged to young senior, I would go with the old fashioned fishline surgery (extracapsular repair procedure)....it's cheaper, less evasive and fine for a dog that is not active or happy to go for a few walks per day.

If I had a senior dog, 9 or older...I would not do surgery, and just do conservative management and use supplements and cartophen injections, etc.

Do a search here, as well as google to get more information.

Re: George has a ruptured cranial oruciale ligament

Thank-you ..... George is 4 years old and 130 lbs (he is tall for a rottie )
This is very scary , but I want to do the right thing. I'm going to spend sometime reading. I'm hoping that I'll get to talk to the surgeon on Monday. I just wish I could make him better today ... my poor baby.
