Re: OFA After Heat Cycle

several years ago I was told by OFA to avoid 4 weeks before, the time during and 4 weeks after

Not sure if that is still their thoughts but it is what I TRY to abide by. I'm not sure it would affect a dog "much" that will rate good or excellent but since seasons loosen ligaments it sure could affect a dog and make the difference between a fair and a fail

Re: OFA After Heat Cycle

Thanks Diane!

Bella is due to come in heat about two weeks before she turns two. She has already prelim'd good. I'll take your advice and wait 4 + weeks before doing her final OFA. Thanks again!

Re: OFA After Heat Cycle

We brought Teah in to do her OFA hips and elbows but since she was in heat the vet said to wait 6wks after she was done because of looser ligaments during heat. After the 6wks we did the x-rays and she came back with good hips and normal elbows.

Re: OFA After Heat Cycle

i usually recommend 6-8 weeks after heat is done or 1 month before next heat is expected for best results.

Re: OFA After Heat Cycle

Agreed - about 4 weeks after is what I was told or 4 weeks before.
