puss penis

hi all,

This is my first post, so be gentle.

Although i have owned rotties for the past 16 years im a little concerned with my newest pup Kane(4.5 months old),

a few weeks ago i noticed two puss filled pimples on the skin around his penis, although that didnt bother me to much i have now noticed a puss like substance around the opening of his penis. I have noticed all my other male dogs producing what seems to be seimen but Kanes seems much more white than usual almost like puss.

Id like to think its just seimen but he is young & his testicles have not developed yet.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

A certain amount of discharge is normal, regardless of whether or not the testicles have descended. But, if you are in any way concerned, you should consult a vet.
IME most puppies get tummy pimples at some stage, I've never had one (yet) in which they turned out to be anything sinister.

I think you're talking about 2 different things.

The pimples on the skin around his penis are one thing. Are they chronic? How many are there? Is the dog uncomfortable and licking? How big are the pimples? I'm thinking that these are just tiny pimples caused by a little irritation from what you've posted and I wouldn't be too worried, UNLESS there are scads of them and the odg is uncomfortable.

The pus at the opening of his penis is a little more worrisome. Is the pus actrually at the opening of his penis (the red, lipstick shaped part inside) or is it collecting on the end of his sheath (the skin that covers the penis?) Is there blood in it? Is it enough to drip?

It's normal for a male to get some fluid collected at the end of the sheath that looks kinda thick and pussy. It should just be enough to notice, no dripping and no blood.

I agree with Jayneliz. I have 2 males at home right now. One gets a little of that discharge at the end of his penis all the time, the other never gets it. I think in my dogs case, one grooms better then the other. They have both been checked by the vet on many occasions and never had any issues with it.

If it causing your dog discomfort and you see him licking at it more then the normal "grooming" then it is time for a vet visit.

the pimples do not look serious(just like normal pimples), the puss is what worries me.

the puss is at the end of the sheath, it does not drip and there is no blood. It doesn't seem to bother Kane at all but I was worried it may be some sort of infection on his penis as it very much looks like puss.

it is normal. called smegma-the penis puss looking discharge. only worry if bloody.
the pimples on abdomen can be puppy pyoderma. sometimes resolves on own or with a superficial antibiotic cream or in excess pimples, oral antibiotics.

Thanks Targon, I also have wondered about the pimples, on closer examination I found that the pimples go all the way up on the stomach just like a bitch which has nipples. Thunder will get the puss on his penis most of the dogs that I have had have this. Always wondered if the dog couldn't make up its mind which it wanted to be. lol
