| Weird rash on stomach of Mika that won't go away! So here is the issue: Mika had a small bite-like bump on her stomach one day that itched really bad. We put some neosporin (sp?) on it, but it didn't heal at all. Eventually the bump started to grow outwards in a ring formation. At first I thought it was a ringworm, but remembering that my vet said that ringworm glows under UV light, I looked at it and there was no glow. So we continued with the neosporin and still nothing but continued spreading of this ring. Finally when the diameter of the ring was ~1 inch (started from the size of a mosquito bite) and with the appearance of a second bite-like bump an inch or so away (which also started to spread), I took her to the vet who gave us a 10 day dosage of antibiotics. However, after 10 days there was ZERO improvement. The next course of action the vet tried was an injection of steroids to stop her from itching it. Now, two weeks later the ring has gone away except for the very bottom where there still appears to be 2 bite-like bumps. I'm concerned that when the steroid wears off the spreading will begin again. What more should we try? Although this is a family trusted vet of over 10 years, I'm wondering about a second opinion. I know it isn't a ringworm (the vet double checked) and I'm pretty sure it isn't Lyme disease because it isn't the typical blood red bulls-eye...does anyone have any other suggestions as to what could be the cause? |

| Re: Weird rash on stomach of Mika that won't go away! How did the vet determine if that it was NOT ringworm? In any event, you may want to try an OTC antifungal like Monistat.

| Re: Weird rash on stomach of Mika that won't go away! I agree with Jayne that it sounds suspiciously like a fungal infection of some sort. There are plenty of OTC anti-fungal meds (such as those for athlete's foot) that might help.

| Re: Weird rash on stomach of Mika that won't go away! I know people aren't dogs, but Lyme Disease on people is often indicated by a reddish circle about one inch in diameter. Just a thought. |
