Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? My rotti was diagnosed with Lyme Disease about 2 weeks ago, and she was given the prescription Doxycycline. About 4 days ago she developed this irritation (red spot on the skin in between her pads on her front paw). I bought over the counter topical spray to help with the itching and or burning that can be related to her uncomfortable situation, but I honestly have no idea what it can be from. The area looked very red and tender, so I soaked her paw in warm water twice a day with antibacterial soap, and I wrapped her foot at night so she wouldn't gnaw at it or lick it to death. The redness seems to have gone down quiet a bit, but she still is limping on it, and she doesn't like to put a lot of weight on it, and of course she is still chewing at the bottom of her paw. Any advice of what this could be, has anyone had their dog on Doxycycline with similar rash-like side effects? Looking to hear from someone soon, Melissa

Re: Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? What are the possible side effects of Doxycycline: If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving doxycycline and seek emergency veterinary medical attention: an allergic reaction (hives; difficulty breathing; or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat); severe headache; dizziness or blurred vision; fever; hair loss; bull's-eye lesions; vesicles (small bubble of liquid in a cell) around the mouth, ears, or groin; urinating less than normal or not at all; dark colored urine; confusion or weakness; loss of appetite; or jaundice. Continue giving doxycycline and talk to your veterinarian if any of these less serious side effects occur: mild nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Side effects other than those listed in this guide may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that is unusual or seems especially bothersome to your pet. Hope this helps!!!

Re: Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? Well, I don't believe they are hives, I found that on a website as well...I got a good look in between her paws today with a flashlight and I did see some white puss but very little...I thought I saw something little poking out, as if maybe she had something caught underneath her skin but when I looked again I couldn't see anything...the most trouble I am having is the fact that Emmy won't sit still...any advice to make her lay down without wiggling around and fighting me to get off of her? I am trying to be patient and gentle with her while looking at her paw...but she refuses to settle down

Please help Hi, I believe my Rottweiler Emmy has a yeast infection. She is scratching her left ear, licking her genitals, and chewing and licking her left paw in between her pads. The skin in between her pads are red and irritated and there is an odor coming from her ear. This has been a reoccuring habit for her, itching and scratching here and there, but ever since we started her on anti biotics 5x a day for Lyme Disease, it has really brought out the (What I believe is..) Yeast Infection. Can anyone please tell me natural remedies to help treat the yeast over growth, as well as make her less itchy and irritable? Please, I do not want to send her to the vet for more antibiotics, it would defeat the whole purpose. She needs to stay away from antibiotics..I need a natural cure, so please, anyone help. Thanks Melissa

Re: Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? My rottie was on doxycycline for 30 days when he had lyme disease...I feel your pain, it is terrible to watch them suffer thru Lyme. As for the yeast infection, I don't know of any natural remedies, if it were me I'd go to the vet...Sorry!

| Re: Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? This same thing just happened to my rottie. But she was not on any medication. I believe the problem was yeast or like athletes feet. I also live in NJ and I think it was caused by all of the rain we have been having, as my dogs spend most of their time outside in my fenced in yard. She was put on Cephalexin and it has cleared up we also were using Neo Predef powder on her feet.

Re: Is Doxycycline giving my dog a rash? Hey everyone, well I finally gave in and took her to the vet today hoping I wouldn't be given antibiotics..but $155 later and I was given a shampoo to soak her foot in and a powder to absorb the moisture as well as sooth the irritation...and yes you are right, and I was right too, she does have a yeast/fungal infection on her paw in between her pads..poor baby =( She is so itchy and uncomfortable and to top it off she has itchy ears that were also checked out..she has little hairs in her ears that can be ticklish...and she also has some fluid build up. So here she is now with a doughnut around her neck to prevent her from chewing at her feet..funny thing is, she is a flexible girl! She stills reaches her paws even with the doughnut around her head (the new and improved cone) She is a tough little one..but I love her, thanks for all your help!
