Lymes Disease

Bart was diagnosed with Lyme's Disease and has had 4 doses of his antibiotics so far. Last night we thought he was feeling well he was up and playing, then before bed he was crying he hurt so bad he wouldn't move. I gave him some pain medications his vet prescribed and I am calling his vet today. I was just wondering if anyone had any home remedies to help with the joint pain. It is breaking my heart to watch him laying around in pain. And does anyone know how long it will be before he will be ready to take short walks, I don't want to push him too early. Any suggestions or past experiences are helpful. THANKS!

Re: Lymes Disease

typically after a week on Doxy dogs feel a good bit better. be sure to continue the Doxy for 4-6 weeks and have your vet run a C6 test at some point after the meds are done to make sure the Lyme titer is below acceptable levels. If not treatment needs to continue longer

If you have access to a holistic vet they can often recommend some natural products that are compatable with the Doxy and helpful to the dog

Re: Lymes Disease

I've had three dogs test positive, and get treatment. Two of them lived relatively long and healthy lives. My GSD tested positive twice, and he was running around until a decline that began when he was 12.

Our current dog, a Rotti, tested positive. She's 7.

Work with your vet, give it time. And make sure you're checking yourself for ticks, this disease is harder to treat in humans.

Re: Lymes Disease

Thanks for the advise I will look for a holistic vet to see if there is anything else I can do to make him more comfortable. He goes back in 4 weeks to do more tests, and hopefully the test results will be low enough to receive the vaccine. I think he just over did it yesterday. I was just shocked at how bad the joint pain can be, he couldn't even move. At 71lbs, he is not exactly easy to pickup and move, so we made Daddy put him on the cool leather couch, his favorite sleeping place, and I was up every hour checking on him he looked pitiful. Thank you guys again for the advise!!! It's appreciated!!!!
