Abnormal amount of eye discharge What might cause this? She has no allergies that I am aware of (although this is my first year with her so who knows) and she hasn't acted weird in any way recently.

Re: Abnormal amount of eye discharge My Ghengis has this as well. I took him to the vet and had all kinds of tests done. Changed foods half a dozen times. no results. Finally, the vet said its most likely the season. And a bit of reaction to the pollen in the air. I did notice that in the winter the eye boogs are nearly non existant and summer time when we are out and about he gets alot more.

Re: Abnormal amount of eye discharge Could be allergies. Our Moxie has always had slight eye discharge, regardless of the food she's been fed. Which was premium kibble, then raw. Moo's eye discharge seems worse this time of year. Now, the pollen leaves a green tinge on everything! Our older girl (another rescue--a private one, originally from a pet store) has never had eye discharge and she's been on the same diet as Mox.

Re: Abnormal amount of eye discharge Blade has always had them, whatever the food, whatever the season. Sometimes it's worse than others, but I always wake up to find them on his face. I just take them off and they usually won't appear again before the next morning.

Re: Abnormal amount of eye discharge Austin is one of the worst cities in the nation for seasonal allergies and my throat is definately scratchy today so maybe that's it. I doubt its food she's been on canidae als for months now. Didn't make her eye discharge go away but it sure helped with her smell. Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll hold off on a vet trip unless she starts acting weird she is as cheerful and spastic as ever.

Re: Abnormal amount of eye discharge I've just experienced this problem myself, with my four year old girl. The discharge became much more milky and thick, and was not only running from the corners of her eyes, but around the eyelid. Over a week it got thicker and more persistant. I finally took her to our vet and he perscribed eye drops. By that time her, under her lower eyelids were a redish coloring. He said it could be related to alergies or it could be an eye infection. You have to be careful and keep a close watch on that, if it seems to get worse, its better to get it dealt with, then to leave it and allow it to get really bad. The eye drops and acouple antibiotics cleared them right up in acouple days!
