Hannahs upcoming surgery

Don't want to hijack a current thread about toes.
My 9 1/2 old Hannah is scheduled to have her toe amputated June 11. The other thread mentions the Therapaw shoe. What great timing for me! I am not looking forward to try to keep Hannah away from her toes! Even with the E collar this smart girl will try to get at her toe. She was able to Help her stiches along when she was spayed!
I will ask my vet if this shoe MIGHT be the solutation for Hannah
Any forum members have some suggestions???

Re: Hannahs upcoming surgery

You could sit there and hold her paw 24/7. Good luck with the surgery. When one of mine tore a pad, I had a bandage on it with a sock over it. I just watched as much as possible and when she went for it, I told her to leave it alone. It was tough.

Re: Hannahs upcoming surgery

Hannah's nail became seperated from the nail bed. My vet removed the nail. Over the months it is not healing. To prevent infection the vet recommended amputation of the toe.
I have talked to the Therapaw folks. They are very helpful. Now I have to ask my vet IF the boot can be used.
Thank you for your concern.

Re: Hannahs upcoming surgery

Ah Marianne, sorry to hear about Hannah. She'll do just fine. It's you who will need something to get through this!!

I don't have any suggestions but what rottielover2004 said sounds like what the vet most likely will do. As for you, measure with triple fingers, on the rocks!

Re: Hannahs upcoming surgery

Honestly it took him a long time, 3 months, he was on 3 sorts of drugs, including codeine. metacam, and some antiinflammitory. Harley was young and stupid, even though doped up and in pain, he still tried to play and run, even with supervision. So healing took longer.
I think Hannah will do great, there were no complications at all :)

Re: Hannahs upcoming surgery

Hannah had her surgery today. So far she has been sleeping and leaving the bandages alone. I have her e-collar and a sock ready for tomorrow LOL. Now for the healing up wait.

No can do, my meds won't allow me to drink either! So, here's to ya, (cup of coffee in hand).

I'm glad to hear that Hannah is sleeping it off and so far so good. Keep us informed.
