Re: Limp and stiff gait

Went to the orthopaedic surgeon today. He thinks the dog has a right elbow effusion and probable free joint fragment. He pushed on her elbow a certain way and she yelped in pain. The xrays show nothing which he said is often the case. Her limp has become less noticeable over the past few weeks. He wants to perform arthroscopy for $1400 and says 70 percent chance he will help her and 30 percent chance there will be no difference. Not great odds for $1400. Does this price sound right for a knee scope? As far as her so called cow hocked rear legs, he said he would do tibial osteotomy to correct. He said her hips are good and her problem has nothing to do with her hips. Partly he said it would be correction for cosmetics and also to prevent future stress on the medial ligaments in the knee and hocks. Any thoughts? Would you have these things done? A lot of money to spend on a dog.
