Any suggestions for rough spots on elbows?

My seven year old has some rough spots like many large breeds do, but lately he has been licking, maybe due to some arthrtis issues in the elbow. I know when he was younger they did fill with a little fluid from hitting them on the hard floor, I think it's called a hygroma? he licks a little and they have become somewhat irritated it looks like.

Re: Any suggestions for rough spots on elbows?

I just started a thread a few weeks ago about that problem. My dog has a hygroma on one of his elbows and I wanted it gone before the USRC National show.

My breeder told me that if they are still in the rough spot stage to rub " bag balm " on the spots to soften them. That may help you, may not but I tried

It sounds as if your dog has calisus(spelling) on his elbows. You could probably use some Vit E on them. Also if they just started bothering him you should maybe have him checked by your vet to make sure there isn't anything else going on.
