Will he ever stop peeing on everything?

We have 11 month old male that we are going to get neutered in a few weeks.
I am wondering if he will stop peeing on EVERYTHING in our backyard?
He has been lifting his leg since he was 5 months old!! He is with two other females, one is 5 years old and fixed and the other is 4 months and not fixed yet. Humping is not an issue, I don't let him do that.
He is a wonderful dog but I always have to watch him closly whenever we bring him any where because he is Very quick to lift his leg on something.
I am hoping neutering will help with some of this.

It should really help. Once the testosterone is gone, usually the urge to mark goes too. Since he has been doing this for awhile, you do have to watch and work with him ,and teach him he is not allowed to mark inside or outside.

It does take a a week or two for the hormones to clear the system, after the neuter.

Yes neutering will help. My boys peed on everything especially new things and I was horrified when my husband brought 1 over to his friends and peed on their big screen tv! Aafter they were neutered they stopped. Just give it time for the testostarone to leave his body.

Neutering didn't change anything for our boy. When he is on leash he does not mark frequently... when he is off leash he pees on anything that stands vertically (like my mom's tulips!)
It's tough to curb it once it has started... I usually walk around the yard with him and discourage him from marking.

My last Doberman and Rottweiler both peed on anything they were allowed to for their entire lives. Neutering didn't make a noticeable difference to me.

On a sidetrack, we had an idiot in our old neighborhood yell at my husband for letting our dog pee on the stop sign at the corner. "My kids play out there." Still irritates me to this day.

My old cocker who was neutered nearly 13 years ago still is a hiker. For 12 years I tried to get him to stop; I figure he's earned the right to do it now. However, a big screen TV belonging to someone else was never a target. He did hike his leg on my mother-in-law's 4-poster bed one time when we were visiting them. I never even mentioned it....(I kind of resented the fact that he could do that and I couldn't! Gosh, I love that woman! )

Canine coach that just gave me a good laugh! Just thinking back on some of the things my boys have peed on before they were neutered is pretty funny now! Mine stopped after they were neutered for the most part, nothing like before they were.

I don't know if the neutering helps ! I adopted an 18 month boy (neutered) and as I was lifting him into my truck the lady said "oh - he'll pee on electronics" I didn't think I heard correctly... until my VCR wouldn't work and took it in for repairs and the guy backed up from it like it was a snake - said - Lady this is caked with urine... light bulb came on. He also peed on plastic bags ! Poor boy passed away 18 months later from undetected heart condition but what a hoot he was ! I think if you catch him in the act - a correction and point in the right correction might help !! Best of luck !!

When you say he pees on "everything" in the YARD, do you mean he pees on the bushes and flowers or do you mean the lawn furnature and the side of the house? Neutering really isn't the miracle cure that it is usually made out to be. The people that saw a difference were the people that implimented a training program that worked. Training is the key, not surgery. Training will break the cycle, or habit, not lack of testrostrone.
Peeing IN the house is also a training issue. If the dog is house trained in YOUR house, but isn't reliable in someone else's house it is because the dog hasn't either generalized that all indoor spaces are off limits or you haven't taken him outside enough and the poor dog's bladder is bursting. Time can fly when you are visiting.
If your dog is peeing on the bushes and the flowers in the yard, it is because he hasn't been taught that those things are off limits. It is there, you haven't said differently, so he does. Frankly I think people are silly to think that their dog should automatically know that the award winning rose bush is off limits but the clump of weeds in the corner is fair game. If you don't want him to pee in your garden, then make it so he can't get into the garden.

Kane is neutered and he'll pee on anything outside as well. It doesn't bother me at all, unless we're formally walking. I just don't see any difference in him after his surgery. He only marked in the house 2x that I know of. (I was VERY paranoid and watched him like a hawk when I noticed he started lifting). I probably scared him to death as a puppy because whenever he looked like he was going to pee I would holler 'Hell no pal!' and scoop him up. Once he got too big for that I would run past him really fast and open the door so he could go outside. He learned quickly not to pee in the house, the marking was a different story, he tried for months. Every once in a while he'll try to mark in PetSmart but a 'have you lost your mind' curbs it. lol

You just have to watch and correct because without it he'll be a marking machine.

We have fenced off several areas in the garden.
He will pee on a piece of PAPER in the yard!!
Yes I have worked with him in the house and out.
The male Rott. we adopted and lost last year due to Osteosarcoma was not like this, he was neutered at the age of 5 months though.
Also, I had an intact male German Shepherd for 13 years that was never like this.
We are waiting to neuter Koda untill he is a year old because I think it is better for them to fully develope first. I don't know if this is better or worse in some ways. :(
I am hoping after his neuter he will respond better to training because I'll tell ya, right now he is a pain in the butt as far as this is concerned. He has marked in our house and I am wondering if it has to do with being with two females.
I have had dogs for 20 years and I have never experienced one like this.
Hopefully the neutering will help, I'll keep you posted.

In this article about "territorial marking"...it says that 50% of marking stops after castration, and the loss of testosterone is what helps with the marking. I agree...training is also important. I've seen stud dogs stop marking when neutered at the age of 8....not from being trained...but from lack of hormones.

If your male dog is lifting his leg and urinating here and there in your house; on walls, chairs, lamps and alike, this may not be an inappropriate elimination problem. Your dog is most probably presenting territorial marking behavior. Most intact (not altered) male dogs will not mark in the house because they see the home as their den, a place they are secure about. However, if a female comes into heat or another dog perceived as dominant in nature passes through, territorial marking may begin.
Marking can be distinguished from regular urination in that this behavior comprises a small squirt of urine rather than the flow normally released when the dog is genuinely relieving himself. This behavior is largely under the influence of testosterone in unaltered males. Following castration, some 50% of the dogs will cease presenting the marking behavior. However, the further away from the onset of puberty the operation is done, the more likely the behavior has become a habit and will continue even after the hormone level decreases. Even if the dog ceases to mark in your home, he may well continue to do so outdoors or in a veterinarian's waiting room where the scent of other male dogs stimulates the response.

The best preventative measure is to castrate the dog at around six to nine months of age. With older, intact dogs veterinarians will sometimes prescribe progestins ...

Koda goes in two weeks, he will be 1 year on the 3rd. of June. Hopefully with some training he will stop.

Yeah. I lived down the street and I can honestly say that I never saw children of any sort playing on the stop sign. I'm sure it would have been alarming enough for me to notice if there were children pole dancing five feet from the street.
