Re: Increase in weight

I have been following the raw prey model with my dog and he is doing great. I certainly am no expert but I would get rid of the veggies, rice, and cottage cheese. I'd also cut back on the daily egg.

Re: Increase in weight

Have you thought about the possibility Magnus is simply an easy keeper??

When I fed kibble our youngest girl thrived on about 2 cups of CA Nat/day, a cup for breakfast and a cup for dinner. Weekdays, we walk for 30-45 minutes in the am and longer at night, and longer on the weekends and holidays. The dogs are free walked. We have about 75 acres and walk all over our property. Before I leave for work each dogs get a puppy dog biscuit. During training sessions, she gets cheese.

I'm the only feeding the dogs in our house and Mox wasn't getting anything other than what I stated. If I fed Mox 3 cups of premium kibble/day, she would've turned into a blimp.

If weight was a struggle before, than I'd say we are overfeeding, but over the last three years keeping him lean has never been a problem. Since this is a change from what has been the norm that is more my concern. I'll cut his food again and reduce the variety of ingredients to those with lower calories. You are all making me feel better about doing so.

Re: Increase in weight

Is the blood sugar checked with that complete blood panel Magnus had drawn? Just wondering if diabetes may be in the picture here.

Re: Increase in weight

Usually with diabetes there is weight loss, increase urination and thirst, and ravenous appetite. But I would still have that checked out.

Re: Increase in weight

Yeah, I had that one turned around. My mistake, overweight can cause diabetes.
