Talking Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, heartworms etc.

What is the best flea and tick prevention medication? What is the best heartworm medication? I have read on here that some people give their dogs the smaller doses of heartworm medication. For example, using the 20 pound dose for a 100 pound dog. How does that work? Am I giving my dogs too much medication since I'm using the dosage that's specified for their weight? I am currently using Interceptor for 51-100 pound dogs. They are also currently on K9 Advantix for dogs over 55 pounds. I applied their last dose on 4/22 and since then have pulled AT LEAST 10 ticks off of each dog. I pulled off 5 yesterday just off of Samson. Neither of them have been wet so the application hasn't been diluted. They don't have fleas so I'm thinking that maybe they just need tick prevention? I am considering using the Preventic collars since I have read good things about them on here. Does anybody have any advice or experiences? Thanks!

I have always used both that you stated your dog is currently using here for many years, for both of my dog's and I never had any problems. It always goes by weight for any medication, so you should use the dosage your vet recommended

Re: Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, heartworms etc.

I've been reading "flea/tick related threads this past week.
I see most on this forum prefer Frontline Plus which I've just ordered through amazon.com. Our Vet gave us a topical application of Vector 3D. I've heard no mention of it on the threads I've checked or the "search" I've used. Since treating her with Vectra 3D on Sunday I've taken off 4 ticks in the past two days. She is wearing a flea collar but I also have a Preventic collar on order too. (I live in MA-high rate of deer ticks.)
