A very sad day for our family

As everyone knows I brought Roxy home to be fostered as of March 10 this year. ! week after, I noticed multiple lumps on her. Rushed her to my vet and a biopsy was requested.
April 17th the biopsy was done. While she was away, I realized I can not part from the most perfect dog.
I told Cindy I wanted to adopt Roxy and make her my own.
Well today I called the vet and the results from the biopsy was done, she has mammary carcinoma. Other words she has Cancer.
I have been through this all day in my head, and my final decision was made when I spoke to my vet tonight.
She can not be put through the major surgery as she has multiple, as in 8 tumors. on both sides of her tummy. To do the surgery it would require her to be completely opened, and no guarantees, only that she would most likely have to be drained often.
I will not put her through this.
She will live the rest of her life as pain free as possible, and with all the love that we can spare.
I still am in shock/numb/teary/bawling/ I am a wreck.

Thank you all for all the love you guys have

Re: A very sad day for our family

I am so sorry for your news and for the tough decision you have had to make.
Roxy will live the rest of her life in love, with her new family. It may not be a long time, but it will be a peaceful time. I don't know why you were fostering her, but obviously she was not wanted by someone. she will know she is much wanted and loved.
I will pray for strength for you as you take on this very sad journey.
I can't hardly read these posts, it always makes me realize that any of us and our dogs are vulnerable.

Big Hug,

Sharon

Re: A very sad day for our family

Rottie lover 2004,
My old lady who is 12 and a half had a half mammary strip about 5 years ago and then to my horror more lumps started to appear and I, like you would not put her through this massive operation. A healer suggested high doses of Garlic can sometimes stop the lumps getting any bigger, we started her off on one Garlic and fenugreek tablet a day from Dorwest Herbs as these are specifically for dogs and excellent quality.
We gradually increased this ( you have to be careful because increasing too quickly can cause diarrhoa) over a period of about a month to 12 tablets daily!!
The lumps are still there but I am overjoyed to tell you that only one has grown bigger!
Thought you might like to give it a try?
Love and Light

My thoughts are with you at this sad time, but you know that Roxy will have the best life possible in her final weeks/months knowing that she is truly loved and wanted. Make as many memories as possible take loads of pics because no matter how long they are with us the memories last forever.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I know that Roxy will have the best life possible in her remaining days being pampered and spoiled. How wonderful she must feel to be so very loved in her forever home.

Re: A very sad day for our family

Rottielover,
I posted this not to long ago and you were the last one to reply. Both you and Roxy were very blessed to have given her this gift. I am so heart wrenchingly sorry it will be for such a short time. Sending you courage, strength and love.

One by One........................

One by One, they pass by my space,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his time, he can't run and play,
They shake their heads slowly and go on their way.
A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail.
Who wants a dog so old and frail?
My family decided I didn't belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head,
Can't justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this place, where day after day,
the younger dogs get adopted away.
When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face and I finally had hope.
You saw through the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond this place.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly, you want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
And I promise to return all the love I can give,
To you, my dear person, as long as I live.
I may be with you for a week, or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart, it will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

Thumbs up Re: A very sad day for our family

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this with Roxy.
Damn, the previous owner's that never bothered to have her spayed....this would have been preventable.

It's a good warning for owner's leaving their females intact, even though they are not breeding....very common for females to get tumors in the mammary glands.

Since she is spayed now, the tumors may not grow as quickly. Hoping you have some quality time with her.

Gina

Re: A very sad day for our family

Gina, she was spayed by her previous owners. she was spayed at 2 1/2, she is now almost 5.
She has been a blessing for me and my family. She actually brought me and my boyfriend together...She came into my life for a reason
