Bufferin Question

Bear's hips have been bothering him since last week, and he is getting worse as every day goes by. I am getting him in to see the vet finally tomorrow, and I do not expect a good outcome as he is basically just laying around. He has stopped eating, and is yelping in pain every time he moves. ...Anyway i did give him 1 bufferin yesterday and 1 this morning, but they don't seem to be really taking the edge off. The vet here is closed, but I am wondering how much can i safely give him. He's atleast 130 lbs and the bufferin are 500 mg (extra strength)

Thanks

Re: Bufferin Question

The only over the counter asprin product that I would give my dog is Ascriptin. She got 2000 mg/day. She was 80-85 pounds. My vet told me to give her the adult dosage. Ascriptin is aspirin with Maalox. My vet told me that the other buffering agents actually prevent the aspirin from being absorbed due to the dog's short GI track.

It isn't the easiest product to find. Not all stores carry it. It is by Novartis out of NJ.

Re: Bufferin Question

Ascriptin Is not really easy to find, but it is beneficial for sensitive tummy cases.

It is aspirin buffered with Maalox, and normally comes from 150mg to I think 325mg’s. I would consult your vet before you dose the doge for the correct amount.

I know it can be ordered online from Amazon and several other sources.
