Angry First aid kit??

I was refilling or first-aid kit this weekend when I realized, I should have a doggie one!

What do you recommend keeping in the kit. (It will be in the car). All I can think of is Vet wrap, and towels.

Any suggestions would be great!

Re: First aid kit??

Thank you for asking this! We're going to Montana in a few months and where we go is pretty remote, I'd love to have a good one for this trip.

Bottle of water
Extra leash
Benadryl...

Re: First aid kit??

What about clipping that leash to an extra collar??

I don't have a canine first aid kit so I'm interested in reading suggestions.

Re: First aid kit??

Oh I am all over this !! Having horses, birds and dogs, I have established a kit for all of them because at one time or another I have Doctored them all

My dog kit includes :

Gauze sponges
Triple antibiotic ointment
Rubbing alcohol
Ace self-adhering athletic bandage
White petroleum jelly (Vaseline or similar)
Eye wash
Sterile, non-adherent pads
Benadryl capsules
Hydrocortisone
Sterile stretch gauze bandage
Buffered aspirin
Hydrogen peroxide
Kaopectate tablets
Bandage / scissors
Vet wrap bandage

I am sure there are a few more things in there, but I can't think of them off hand.

In addition to all the other great things listed, I always have a tube of Terramycin Antibiotic Ophthalmic Ointment on hand and a thermometer.

Re: First aid kit??

Don't forget some product with simethicone, like Gas-X, for bloat.

While it was not successful with my girl Sofia, other owners have told me it bought them enough time to make it to the vet for a successful surgery.

Re: First aid kit??

Maxxx...
Kaolin/pectin can be used to treat mild diarrhea in dogs and cats. It can cause constipation if the doses is too high. I worked as a vet tech for many years so I am comfy giving the dosages needed.

Of course I would always recommend a trip to the Vet in the case of persistent diarrhea.

The American Red Cross sells and lists supplies for a k9 First Aid Kit (they also have a first aid book and course) and this company also sells a first aid kit: Ruff Wear Dog Boots, Dog Coats, Dog Bowls, Dog Packs, Dog Toys, Dog Beds, and other Dog Gear For Dogs On The Go..

I say SUPER GLUE! Jaycee got her ear ripped on a Sunday, not enough for stiches, but enough it would have left a bit of splice on the tip of her ear...we super glued it and you now can't tell...and some liquid bandaid...
