Thumbs up Can a puppy get a pot belly after eating?

It seems that after my puppy finish eating his food, his belly looks kind of big. I should be concerned about this, is this normal. It does go down afterward, he usually relieves himself. We're going to vet tomorrow, just to make sure, everything is ok. I think he might have worms also, will bring in a fecal also.

Yes, a pups tummy will look a little bigger after he eats. Your doing the right thing by taking a fecal to the vet to check for worms.

Re: Can a puppy get a pot belly after eating?

Yes, it is normal. As long as it doesn't stay "pot-bellied" he is fine. If it is always big, it can be a sign of worms.

I know this sounds crazy, but when Nisha was little I used to feel for the pot-belly; if it was there, I knew she had to go potty. If it was gone, I took it to mean her belly was empty of food/water .

Thumbs up Re: Can a puppy get a pot belly after eating?

Thanks you guys for letting me know this. I have found earilier today when he took a poop, I saw like a drip of blood on his stool. This is the first time I have seen this, so I am very concerned. I always check his stool after he goes. We will definitely find out tomorrow when I take him in. I will keep u guys posted.

The drop of blood could be from worms or may be other intestinal irritation going on. I had kittens that did this once. They had been dumped on our property and once we got the worms taken care of no more blood in the stool.
