Thumbs up Sad news

We had Quade back at the vet this week because of increased limping and pain. We thought maybe he had sprained his good foot again.

Upon initial examination the vet thought Quade had torn his Cruciate. They knocked him out after a struggle and did the drawer test found he has loose knees but not ruptures. He has shoulder issues starting along with the hip dysplasia. We were told this is because his front end is doing more and more work all the time to compensate for his bad right hip and the laxity in his knees.

Quade no longer has any hip remaining in the socket and is bone on bone. All of these are just compounding the other and with seeing him not be as happy as he was we have decided to put him to sleep. We can't make him wait 4 more months for surgery as even with medication and supplements he is in too much pain.

This was an extremely hard decision to make emotionally but when we look at the big picture we cannot have our boy struggle through because of our needs. We love him too much and as responsible pet owners feel that this is the best decision.

I want to thank each of you for all of your help on this rollercoaster journey. You have provided us with so much information, ideas and support.

We look forward to the day our hearts are healed and that we receive another 'Rotti baby' into our homes.

God Bless and Thank you.

Re: Sad news

I am so sorry; what a hard decision that must have been. It is good for him to be released from his pain. You did the right thing; I will keep you and Quade in my thoughts and prayers.

Thumbs up Re: Sad news

Oh Lynn...my heart breaks for you. We had to make the same decision...but we at least had almost 5 years.
It's awful to see them in pain...and a young dog that cannot run and play...really never gets to be a puppy or enjoy being a dog.

You are right about all of the weight going to their front...and if their front is no good...then nothing is good. Our Bruno had developed quite the chest...but his back end was so much smaller.

When we got Baxter about 9 months after euthanizing Bruno...I would get tears in my eyes to see Baxter running and playing like a "normal" puppy...something that Bruno really never got to do, or he would be in pain.

RIP Quade and may you never be in pain again.

Gina

Lynne, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking for you but you did the right thing for Quade, he's no longer in pain, as hard as it was for you to make that decision, he will be thanking you from up above.

May he run free with the angels until you meet again.

~*hugs*~

Re: Sad news

It is a very sad occasion for you and your family and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. Quade is now out of pain but the pain of losing him is still lingering in your heart. I feel that you made the right decision as his quality of life was hard for him to bare. I have had to make these decisions before so I know how you are feeling right now.

God Bless you.

Re: Sad news

So sad to have such a young pup go through this. Quade was certainly lucky to have you and your family. Remember the happy times you had during his short stay. My heart also goes out for you. I may need to make a similar decision for Poohbear some day(too soon).

RIP Quade.
