Redness in ears

My 7 month olds ears are red inside. I don't recall them looking like this before & my older dogs ears don't look like that. She was just spayed on Tuesday. She also panosteitis & is on meds for that. She does not seem to be bothered by them.

Do they seem warmer to the touch than normal? She may have the beginnings of an ear infection or allergies.

Has she been outside? Sometimes when they get hot their ears turn a little bit redder.

Have you wiped her ears? Do you notice any odd smell? If yes she could have an ear infection. If not I wouldn't worry too much unless they seem to be bothering her.

Re: Redness in ears

Was she put on antibiotics? The use of them can lead to yeast infections in the ears because not only do they kill the bad bacteria, they also kill the good flora.

I would also think allergies as a possibility as well.

Either way, if they are red, heated, and your dog seems to be reaching up and scratching at her ears, your dog, more than likely, has an ear infection and needs to see a vet. Catching it early will lesson her discomfort.

Re: Redness in ears

We just went today and Roxy had a yeast infection in her left ear...I noticed her shaking her head a lot last night and scratching at it...It was very red and had lots of crud way down deep...I had worked 12 hour shifts the weekend and hubby was home with her the majority of the time so I think it probably had started then, due to how red and how much crud was in there..I would get her to a vet early if she acts like there is any discomfort, wont let you mess with her ear, shakes her head alot, or scratches at the ear a lot...best wishes
