excessive bile

My 14 month female, Liliy, had an excessive bile problem.
This causes her to vomit a few times a day. Also, she "spews" vomit/bile (great in the car) as her stomach seem to clench when she is nervous/overly excited. Otherwise, Lily is a healthy, happy, ENERGETIC, shiny coated dog.
Our vet has prescribed Novo Cimetine 1 pill every 12 hours.
As soon as we started these pills she stopped vomiting, and her appetite improved.
THe vet suggested that Lily may only need one or two doses and then an occasional dose going forward. After 3 weeks of this regime (we tried to take her down to 1 pill a day, but the vomiting started up) it appears she may have to stay on these pills, I will know more after our follow up vet app.
I was curious however if anyone else has experienced this problem?
Vicky

Re: excessive bile

How often is she fed? Often the bile comes up from a tummy that's too empty....something as simple as giving her a Milkbone every few hours might take care of the problem.

My dog has a tendency to hurl in response to stress (or excitement - same thing, really), also. I found that out the first time I took her temp at 9 weeks old and "blurp" went her breakfast. It's only an occasional problem for her, but she does get a bit of a snack in between meals, too, so maybe that helps her.

Give it a try and see if it helps.

Re: excessive bile

Just last week we had been dealing with a similar situation. Davinci our 1.5 yr old male was getting up in the night (sometimes as early as 2:00AM, sometimes as late as 6AM) and vomitting. He only vomitted bile, never food. He was showing no other symptoms/signs of anything being wrong.

Out vet suggested we try feeding him half of his normal amount of food when we feed him dinner at 6-7PM every night, then right before we go to bed, feed him the other half of his dinner. We've been doing this for a week now and he hasn't thrown up since.

It looks like he just had an empty stomach.

Re: excessive bile

I will try to make sure she has a little something in her belly every few hours, like a milkbone as you suggested.
Presently Lily is fed twice a day, although she never finishes her meals, tends to nibble troughout the day. She eats no more then 4 cups of food a day. Not a big eater.
Thanks for yoru input.

Re: excessive bile

Lola has had this acid bile problem since she was a pup. She is now 3yrs. The vet had put her on a drug called Tagamet which is over the counter and reduces stomach acid. She takes 1 in am and 1 in pm before bed which is about 11:30 pm. She also gets organic brown rice cakes with organic natural peanut butter on them for late night snack. No more bile vomits during the night. Now when she pukes, it's good old fashioned I ate something out side puke. She is feeling much better and will go down to one tagamet soon.
