?? here hope someone can help

Hey folks,i'm new to the board and i found this site while doing a search on a problem my rotti has been having for a few days now.o.k i noticed him limping picking up his back foot.well my borher-in-law and sister raise Shitzu's and they sell them,so of course i trust their judgment.so i had him check his foot out and he said he had one of his claws split and it was causing a quick effect in it.well he clipped what he could and said it was still split some.so i decided to see if he quit limping on it or not, well he's still holding it up off the ground.i called the vet and they said to look for swelling, bleeding etc.well i have looked and i see nothing at all.all his pads look good and i can't see the split claw either, theres no sighn of any blood at all and he'll let me handle his foot,i have even put pressure on it to and he just don't act like i'm bothering him.i have also moved his leg around to see if he's done damage to it and he acts like it don't faze him at all.the reason i'm holing off going to the vet is they are going to hit me with a huge bill i can't pay right now, cause my job has took a plunge and my wife is a stay at home mom with twins.daycare is way too high for me to afford.but enough of the pitty,i just wanted to see if someone here could please help with any suggestion i can try.my vet used to do payments but so many people was charging and then not paying ,it ruined it for us all. anyway if you have someting in mind i may try please let me know. thanks alot guys.

He could have Hip Dysplasia. Do a search here for more info on it. He will need x-rays to confirm it. I would keep his activity level to a minimum. Do you crate train him? If so, keep him confined; if he has an injury, moving around a lot will only make it worse.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but go to a vet now.

Nisha got a bad sprain when she was a puppy. I saw her injure herself (+ she cried). Did you see him hurt himself? Has he ever limped before, or had any problems getting up?

i haven't seen him injure his self at all. now i have seen him get up real slow before, but i figured it was old age.but he has never limped before and he plays like crazy.right now he don't act like anything bothers him,he's still alert and wags his nub and all.

There are a few possibilities. How old is the dog?
It could be a ruptured ACL...very common in our breed...and only surgery will help. It could signs of Hip Dysplasia, and you need to have it diagnosed with an x-ray. It could be a sprain or a strain? Rest is needed and no activity. It could also be the dreaded but very common for this breed osteo-carcinoma (bone cancer).

This dog needs to be seen by a vet. See if you can beg, borrow or sell some of your things to round up some cash.

Re: ?? here hope someone can help

When someone decides to own a dog they should make sure they can afford any medical treatment the dog should need.
Sorry, we all have problems and expenses but once we decide to become responsible for a dog, we need to make sure we do everything to honor the choice we made.
It could be any of the ailments mentioned here and they all should be attended to by a Vet.
Sorry, no pity here, get YOUR dog to a Vet---he is in some degree of pain.
Also, your writing style is hard to read and follow.

Re: ?? here hope someone can help

You need to get you dog to a vet NOW. Your dog is in pain. That your brother in law breeds and sells Shih Tzus has nothing to do with it. Why would you trust a breeder of Shih Tzus to treat a problem with your Rottweiler? A neighbor of mine breeds and sells unregistered byb Chihuahuas. He'd be the last person I would seek out for vet attention for my dogs. All he knows is back yard breeding dogs for money.

Vet treatment costs money. We all know that when we take on ownership of a dog. It is your duty to provided your dog with proper care. I don't know if it's the case where you live but over here if a person fails to seek veterinary attention for a dog in pain they are likely to be prosecuted.

Brunie's Mom has mentioned the possibilities/probablilities of the cause of your dogs pain. It doesn't sound as though the problem is with its foot. Find the money or work out a payment plan and have your dog seen to by a vet and stop messing with your dogs leg. You can do more harm than good.

I'm sorry to sound harsh and unwelcoming but your dog needs attention and it's your responsibility to provide it.

Not trying to be unfriendly, but I would venture a guess that almost everyone on here, myself included has had it hard at some point. That didn't stop me from getting medical care for my dogs if they needed it. Get a part-time job if you have to. Volunteer to clean cages whatever at your vets, but GET YOUR BOY INTO THE VET!!! He's in pain and deserves better.

Being that he is 9 yo and not bearing weight on a limb without it being painful, cancer comes to mind. Please get him to a vet asap. Based only on his age and breed there is a good posibility that the problem is serious.

dang i guess i really messed up by comeing on here looking for helpful advice.everyone looks at it like you're a animal killer.and to everyone who thinks i'm just letting my dog suffer you are all wrong.maybe i need to refresh the point here a little bit.just because my money is low does'nt mean i'm going to leave my dog in pain and not get him help.i was just wanting some advice and hoping someone had a similar experience with their animal.but everyone bites your head off like your trash.well my dog is going to the vet this week,i don't have alot of money but i've got it taken care of.and FORGIVE ME FOR TRYING TO GET SOME FRIENDLY ADVICE.I WON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN!!

Re: ?? here hope someone can help

and to Anne,my brother-in -law and sister has built a relation ship all over the place with the quality of their dogs, including Hollad.meaning that dogs are sold all over and that tells me that they are trusted very well not only by me but others as well.so yes i'll let them take first look at my dog for sure
