Oh my! Wishing Sassy the best. She is in the best place getting whatever she needs. Keep us informed on how she is doing.

I am really floored by all of this! The kids miss her already! Has anyone had a rottie pull through this?

Not a Rottie, but my Grandmother's lab (named Sassy) pulled through her Parvo. Here's wishing for the best!

That gives me a little more hope! The diarrhea in her crate overnight was not all bloody but it was at the vet ER - all blood.....I think we caught it fairly quick, but I dont know if that makes a huge difference! I called the hospital and they said her fever is down and her platelet count is normal and her dehydration at this point is minimal......but this is day 2 with no food. They are giving her vit b12, potassium, reglan, IV fluids and gentocin.....I am not giving up hope....although they say tomorrow may be worse and day 3 is typically the worst!

Sounds like so far she has stabilized. Glad to hear her platelets are normal and they are keeping her hydrated. How scary for you. Keep your chin up.

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I'm so sorry your puppy has to go through this. Don't worry about the not eating part, as long as she's kept hydrated that's the most important thing right now. She'll lose weight, but she'll gain it back in time. I hope she pulls through for you.

Did she have all her puppy vaccinations? If so, you may be able to get the vaccine manufacturer to help with the cost of treatment. Find out from the vet the maker of the vaccine she received and contact the company to see if you can file a claim.

Keeping our paws crossed that she'll be okay!

Thanks! I am a wreck!! And the kiddos keep asking when she can come home! Sigh....we are in it for the long haul! They said over and over the fact that she weighs 56 lbs is in her favor. And that she is a healthy/strong dog! VERY SCARY! I think its the unknown.....the vet said it is expensive treatment and there are no guarantees....yada yada yada......its nice to have people here to talk to. I just hope that tomorrow isnt as bad as I have it built up in my mind to be....

She had all from the breeder (we got her at a little more then 3 months) and I was under the impression that she was good until 6 months at which point I could start her on heartworm preventative, get her spade, and all the normal shots again....I guess I messed up somewhere along the line....she has had her appt for all of that scheduled for this friday (since early last week)....guess we will be missing all that.....

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

That sounds a bit odd to me. Did the breeder tell you she was good until 6 months? If that is the case maybe the breeder only gave her 1 or 2 sets and told you to get her some more at 6 months...which is not how things are supposed to be done. Usually puppies get 3 - 4 sets of shots from the age of 6/8 weeks up until 16 weeks. After that shots should be good for around a year.

Also I have heard that rotties are just a breed that seems to be more prone to this awful disease . Luckily she isn't an infant puppy anymore and she should be strong enough to pull through this

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

Zumie05,

That's what i've always experienced, first one at 6-8 weeks, 2nd vac at 12weeks and final vaccination at 16 weeks and yes that final shot is good for 1 year.

I hope Sassy will be okay, sending postitive vibes your way!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

Thanks everyone! I picked up Sassy this am to take her to a day clinic...she seemed a bit more peppy....not her normal self, but better.....I don't want to be overly optimistic....we have a durango and she jumped over the back seat to get to me (in the driver seat) and she wouldnt leave my side....when I got the day clinic she wouldnt look at me again and when they put her in the crate she looked at me like "help me"....they are continuing the IV fluids and electrolytes there.....they did give her an "electrolyte broth" type thing - cant remember the name to save my life - because she was acting thirsty when we got to the second clinic and the vet there said that even if she throws it up 3-4 hrs later that its better for her stomach and overall wellness....and she threw it up 3 1/2 hrs after drinking it. She also said it was a good sign that she showed interest at all in drinking! Keep up the positive thought and prayers....we seem to be going in the wrong direction!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

My Clyde was a parvo puppy; his former owners relinquished ownership to me since they did not have money to treat him. He was about three months old when I got "custody" of him. I think he was in the hospital for 2 days. He has been nothing but healthy & energetic since I brought him home. He just turned 2 years old in February.

Best of luck to you!
